Default What about Warner? Part the Second

I know its all speculation and fan wish. But, what is a realistic opinion on what Warner will do? Will they go blu, HD-dvd, or remain neutral? I don't read a lot of the trades online or in print. But, what seems to be the industry concensus?

I still have hopes they will announce they are going Blu-exclusive at the January conference.

I am biased however.

If WB go HD-DVD exclusive then Universal and Paramount will dig their heals in deep and the shift will be towards Dual format players.

What possible gain would WB achieve by going for a 30GB future when Sony, Disney, Fox, Lionsgate will all benefit long turn from larger capacity and higher bandwidth?

WB must look at the global market and see Blu-ray is already the peoples choice and realize the easy option for everyone is to go Blu-ray exclusive, end the war, end Toshibas suicidal business strategy and allow one format the chance to take on DVD and last the next 10 years plus.

I am guessing that they are waiting on the 4th quarter sale which is mainly the Harry Potter series now. If Blu outsells HD-DUD by a large margin I am willing to bet they will become Blu exclusive. If DUD out sells blu-ray then vise versa but that is very unlikely. If they sell even then they will remain neutral...........

I'm wondering what quarter of software sales is more important, 4th or 1st? Reason being is if a lot of players are given as gifts then you'll see real attach rates rise in 1st quarter more than 4th. But you it's hard to say, I know they said they are evaluating the 4th quarter.

I Concur, beef up your Blu ray encodes and your movies will sell like wildfire. Oceans 11,12,13 could have been a huge selling trilogy but word went around that PQ and AQ were horrible because they had to accomadats hd DUD. Such bull, focus on the best possible PQ and AQ, that is what Warner should be doing.

Both. As I've posted, I don't think anything happens until 2Q. That being said, one or a few of the retailers could force things sooner.

I have no doubt WB will be releasing on Blu in 2008. Whether it's exclusively or not, I don't know.

Would love to be wrong and pleasantly surprised by a Blu exclusive WB at CES in January. But I'm not holding my breath.

SA0CD lost all credibility lol was he the one that told us in Sept that was was going exclusive on the 26th? I believe they will go Blu, BD sells better, better copy protection, region codes, and with the exact same features as HD-DVD, (PiP and Ethernet) supperior Bandwidth and Space, the things Warner could do with BD is so much more then they could dream to do with HD-DVD...

IIRC didn't another member beatboy claim that top level BDA officials were rushing to the BD fest last month to finalize negotiations for WB exclusivity to be announced the next day? And then we heard nothing after that...

All indications are that WB will continue to publish in BD (and HD) for the forseeable future, so there's no need to get too worked up or worried based on groundless speculation

what does attach rates have to do with it? in honesty, it's all about volume sales. sell enough discs, and they will come.

or for that matter even still...the Attach rates are going to Take a nose dive..why because the price for HDM has not dropped to the price that J6P..

"you know the people the HD DVD promotional group was trying to target with the low cost HD DVD players for MASS ADOPTION"

thats good in all but the real problem with that is most of the J6P are not ready to fully Embrace HDM just yet even still because most do not have a HDTV, and the HDM movies are on average $25.00+, Hell most of the J6P think spending $20.00 for a DVD is too much asking the J6P consumer to spend more than $25.00+ for a single movie is a bit of a stretch right now esp. in AMERICA with GAS prices and Inflation for just about everything right now being so high.

the Attach rates that have plagued Blu-Ray will also Plague HD DVD right now getting more HDM players in people houses no matter which side this is a given is good no doubt because that means more money for studios down the road but buying more HDM disc's are what matters to studios the very fact that the BDA sells more disc's by far even now with the price that is Higher than DVD prices and that the studios are selling more of the Blu-Ray format in more Markets than HD DVD also means the price for the Disc's production means the cost will decrease for the studios and also means lower Disc cost for the consumer.

The more markets that you can sell your format in the better and that right now between Blu-Ray and HD DVD has Blu-Ray in a resounding lead that
HD DVD will never be able to overtake as long as HD DVD is not branched into more markets than what markets the HD DVD format is only in right now.

I'm not sure what they could evaluate. The only big title I can think that Warner will have that will actually sell is "I Am Legend" which won't come out till 2nd qtr 2008.

If Warner is honestly going to wait to see if all those firesale players finally get them more software sales, you won't see it until mid year.

Does everyone really think they are going to wait that long?
