Default Best Top Middle of the Line HDTV

What would you say are some of the all-around best top of the middle of the line (not the absolute best but close) HDTVs out on the market right now or in the very near future? Also, does anyone here think DLP is better than LCD or Plasma overall?

you can get a huge screen cheap if u go with DLP. I own a 56" 1080P DLP and a 32" LCD. both pictures are amazing. IMO DLP is best

When talking about potential disadvantages of DLP, everyone always mentions rainbow effect, low-level noise, wobulated resolution on many chips, not all 1080p chips have all 1,920x1,080 pixels etc. to mention a few. Still, I don't personally see any current techology that is truly superior in every way (at least not until OLED takes the real plunge into the market).

Sure, i'll weigh in (as long as it's not a scale )

Sony V3000 does a good enough job but if you can stretch the extra bit, go for the W3000 rang, LCD is generally good to look at if your a heavy gamer & movie buff but also want a flat panel, Samsung is also another good LCD manufacturer

I don't know much bout plasma panels cept for the KUO range which is premium stuff, however i do know panasonic should have a good mid-range of plasma panels, burn in is still a risk so don't even bother with plasma panels if your a heavy game 6-10 hours straight & i think screen burn can actually occur after 30-60 mins of a static images sometimes, thats the down side but if ur a movie buff, plasma panels offer better motion handling & black levels generally

DLP, let's see. It's big in the rear but you get bigger screen for less, i think samsung have a LED DLP, that is probably the best thing to go for as LED backlit displays produce the deepest black, in fact, the produce 0 CD/M blacks, TRUE blacks as it were at their best

Laser TV is something else you may want to wait for as it launches 08, it offers 80% of the colour the human eye can see & since it's an evolution of RPTV. it'll still be cheap

Hope i weighed in equally to give you an information to make an informed choice

I own a 61" DLP and I love it. You can't beat the size/quality to cost ratio. Samsung makes a very nice rear projection (which is what I own) and their LED DLP is very slim. I would advise giving them a look...

Default My preferences

Projections or DLPs are out...too bulky and too thick for my taste...flat panels are the way to go...

LCDs are great games...but, for truly great movie experience, Plasma is bar-none the only way to watch movies...my wife won't let me buy 70" plasma...I mean, that would be the ultimate experience!!!

What we need is a hybrid...according to some posts here, Samsung has 31" to show off in early Jan at CES...I mean, what the hell, right? I am perfectly happy now but brain will force me to buy the OLED when ready...

I, too, own the 61" Samsung DLP (rear-projection) - 1080 P and it is tremendous!

The one negative thing I can see about DLP is that they apparently do not make any HDTVs below the 50" line and I'm looking for something a bit smaller than that...

Still, what does any DLP supporter on here say to those who claim DLP sucks due to the potential rainbow effect, low-level noise, wobulated resolution on many chips, not all 1080p chips have all 1,920x1,080 pixels etc.?

Are you saying DLPs aren't "future-proof" or have image retention?

No DLPs are good TVs if that is what you are going for. I am a LCD fan and I am telling you my pros with them. No rainbow though...

The best LCD now has black's as good as plasma & the LED LCD range is actually better, looks like LED LCDs & Laser TVs are gonna tide us over till OLED, Plasma just has no where else to go i think unless the can strap an LED onto plasma TVs & eliminate image retention 100%, they're not going to sell

So, why do you then prefer LCD to DLP?
