Default Game patches?

How do you update a patch for a certain game?

I'm looking for the Assassin's Creed patch, but can't find it on the PS3 site.

Thanks in advance.

Usually they prompt you when the game loads. If it doesnt, then I assume your game is up to date?

Unless there is some kind of system message thing ive never seen before that you can turn on and off...

The AC patch is applied when you start teh game up. Actually most of the patches are like that. Thats how the Heavenly Sword, Warhawk & CoD4 patches were done. The game prompts you to update to the latest version when you load it up.

Exactly right. Just load the game. If there's a patch available, it will give you the option to update the game. You'll be kicked out of the game, and the patch will download and install. The only drawback is that you cannot download patches in the background.

Yea, but the patch files are so small that they download really quickly so there is no need to download it in the background.

For the most part, yes....but that's not exactly encouraging for a future where the patches may be larger. Dunno why you can't simply download it in the background and have the installer in the XMB for whenever you get back to wanting to play the game.

Then they'd have to explain (for online games.. or offline ones with scoreboards that could be affected by exploits) why the game you're background downloading a patch for can't be started.

Because everybody needs to be running the same version of the game for compatibility and fairness.

nba and assasins creed were both pretty big chunks. 35ish and 50ish if i remember right. and both took a pretty long time to download for as small as they were. annoying

it'd also be nice to know what the updates did

Assassin's Creed's patch was there to fix freezing issues. Took me less than five minutes to download and install it.

The patch downloads when you start the game up. I would imagine that if you start the game up you ARE wanting to play the game, so why have an installer in the XMB for a game that you can't play until you install the patch?

I just watch TV for a few minutes while the updates are downloading. Suits me just fine.

Not 100% but it definetly is an improvement. My game only froze one after installing whereas it froze most of the time without it

I should clarify. 5 minutes after beginning the download, it was downloaded, installed, game was loaded and I was getting ready to play.

When I played Folklore for the first time, PS3 did an update to latest version as soon as I popped in the BRay disc...

Nothing like automatic!!!
