Default Patches, caches and such

Hi all.

My ps3 isn't connected to the internet so I don't know these things. If someone could answer these questions for me I'd appreciate it! (Can't find much info on other forums)

1. How do you download a patch or a demo for a ps3 game?
2. Where does the patch and/or demo save to on the ps3?
3. How do I delete this patch and/or demo if I don't want it anymore?
4. Where is game and internet cache saved to and how do I delete this?
5. Is there anything else which gets saved to the ps3 without me knowing while playing a game or surfing the net and if so, how do I delete it?

Thanks for the help!

Via the internet. YOU MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET TO GET A PATCH OR DEMO. For firmwares, you can download it offline using a PC.

2. Where does the patch and/or demo save to on the ps3?
The harddisk.

3. How do I delete this patch and/or demo if I don't want it anymore?
For patches, it's under Game Data folder in the Game section of the XMB. For demos, press Triangle on the Demo and select Delete.

4. Where is game and internet cache saved to and how do I delete this?
See above.

Not really. The web browser clears everything once you exit from it except your bookmarks.

Thanks for the info! Great!

Just two more things:

1. Is the patch file and game cache seperate in the game data section?
2. I see the new firmware adds a file to the video section for blu-ray data. What data is this and what is it for?

Thanks again!

They are the same. No point in hanging on to the patch if you delete the game cache.

It's primarily for BD-Live saves, where you may download additional content. It stores it there. Not many BD-Live discs right now.

So unlike the xbox, you can access the ps3's game cache and patches in the game data utility? And when these are deleted then the cache and patches are deleted as well? I heard you can't access the cache on the xbox?

In the Game Data utility, it only marks that there are game data for a game; it does not differentiate between cache and patches. So once you delete the game data, you delete both the cache and patches.

I don't know how X-Box works.

So technically, if I delete the file in game data utility as well as the save games, then there is nothing left of the game on the console? Not even a bit of cache or anything?

Sorry, I know I'm being persistant but I'm trying to prove a point to a friend who disagrees with me.

Thanks!

You're confusing the issue. A game may have Game Data/Cache, Patches and Game Saves.

If you delete Game Data, you're deleting Cache and Patch data ONLY.

If you delete Game Save, you're deleting Game Save only.

Okay, but if I delete the file in the game data utility then there is no game cache whatsoever left on the console?

To delete the browsers cache you would actually open the browser hit triangle, and under one of the options there is a option to delete cookies, delete cache, delete password information etc... I think you only need to go into history to wipe that too.

Can you tell us the original argument?

And in terms of game cache? My friend argues that the ps3 does what the xbox does, in other words it doesn't allow you to easily delete game cache. The xbox only allows you to delete saved games but I told him that I'm sure you can delte the ps3's cache as well. My friend said that even if you delete the game file in game data utility, you don't get rid of all of the cache.

So my question was: if you delete the game file in game data utility is there any cahe left on the console at all? Or is everything completely deleted then?

Deleted. Try it yourself with a game on disc that requires an install. If you try to play it again, it'll re-install the game data.
