Default Are US and Canadian Blu Rays the same?

I read the review for the kill bill blu rays on here and they got really good reviews so i bought them from someone on ebay. then when i got them they had french writing on them as well as english and said it was from canada. what i want to know is if this is going to be the exact same disc that was reviewed just in different packaging, or is this a totally different release that could have different quality on it, as i have seen before different releases can have varying qualities. thanks for any responses

for 90 percent of releases they are the exact same except for possible audio/subtitle tracks and some packaging changes )mostly the addition of french writing, but sometimes different coverart)

Same just happened to me two days ago. I'm in Canada and I try to buy BDs from the US so I can get the covers in only in English. I bought Death Proof, Planet Terror and Coraline from ebay and the location was showing USA.

When I got them they had bilingual covers as well so I guess the company has a distributor here in Canada.

No issues this time since I was able to get English cover scans from one of the sites and printed them out for Death Proof and Planet Terror. As for Coraline, the spine of the slip cover is one side English and one side French as well as the art cover has printing on both sides so one is English and the other is French.

But I would have liked to know as well since sometimes it is hard to find English covers. I can never find one for my Into the Blue BD.

I can't tell for sure whether the US and Canadian Blu Rays are really the same. I've recently moved to Canada and I've not seen lots of Canadian Blu Ray movies yet, but I'm gonna do that soon, I guess)

Welcome! Most are the same aside from bilingual packaging and audio/subs. There are a couple Canadian companies that release certain titles that sometimes omit a DVD and or digital copy, and on the rare occasion some special features. Also look out for the Alliance double feature discs. They are two movies on one disc usually with no extras and possibly reduced quality.

Overall the pricing is often better up here, but we sometimes don't have the selection. If you have friends/relatives in the states see if you can get them to pick up the exclusives we can't get up here (mostly Target, since they shut them down here a couple years back).

Canadian Blu-rays come with a toque, and enjoy poutine and hockey more than US Blu-rays.

I started this thread which gives a thorough comparison to those that are different. It's a little more in depth as far as extras and the like are concerned than the other thread that compares releases around the world.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=177309

90% of release are identical, but some are released by different companies, and that's usually where the differences arise, although even that isn't a sure thing.

The Canadian version of Pandemic (pressed disc with a digital code by Mongrel Media) seems to be a heck of a lot better than the U.S. version (burned disc and no digital code by XLrator).

There are also a few Canadian Blu's that were never released in the U.S., like Suburban Gothic, Tomorrow, When the War Began and Fireflies in the Garden.

General rule of thumb may be to avoid older Alliance releases of films that at the time weren't yet released in the US (e.g. the first/only (?) Alliance release of Se7en was trumped by WB's American release years later).

There was a minor difference between the American & Canadian versions of the Platinum Edition Blu-Ray of Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

The American version had the restored Original Theatrical 4.0 Mix on the Blu-Ray whereas the Canadian version didn't.

However the DVD copy included with the Canadian version had the restored Original Theatrical 4.0 Mix on it. But it would have been nice if the mix was on the Blu-Ray so you can enjoy the Blu-Ray visuals with the theatrical audio.
