Default How are the neutrals doing since the WB news?

just wondering any thoughts from the neutral movie buyers here on the forum? how are you going to address your collection now that alot of the movies will be on blu? will you end up rebuying the movies you already have on the other format in blu? no sarcasum here, just want to read some honest replies as to the way you will handle going all blu down the road.

Doesn't apply to me since I'm 100% Blu but I saw some threads on AVS where basically some Dudders were saying they couldn't wait for the firesale on Red disks since they could get those movies dirt cheap. As they already have the player, I suppose there is some sense to it... Assuming Red is quality enough for your tastes and you don't expect your HD-DVD player to crap out anytime soon.

If they are truly neutral, it shouldn't matter to them.

ya seems like the smart thing to do if they can get the movies for dirt cheap and i guess they can still use them as upcovert players as well. i am wondering if they will eventually go blu and buy a player or ps3 and start a blu collection, or are they too proud for that?

Well this move meant i was no longer neutral. 100% blu ray now as ive sold my XE1 HDDVD player.

Not much point with just 2 main studios. The way i see it, kill support for HDDVD now and those two studios have a massive dipp in sales and panic and join blu.

( i see HDDVD type neutrals still say both and coexsist, and while i admire there optimisim , i know theyve been passing the peace pipe to drown there sorrows.)

so for nuetrals leaning Blu its clear what they need to do. For red leaning neutrals, wake the hell up.

(PS i dont think very many are truly neutral, they just own both formats to get there movies and have there preference.)

Most (but not all) "neutrals" are actually red ants in disguise.

I commend you for doing that. I agree the less movies are bought the soone those 2 remaining studios come over to Blu-Ray.

that is what I'm wanting for. Would like to replace/upgrade "The Adventures of Robin Hood" from HDDVD to Blu-Ray (one of best movies ever made). Got a used copy and could not wait for it on Blu. I think that is the only WB title I have on HD-DVD. Got a display model of the A2 for a lot less the the wal-mart fire sale price. So, I figured I can get a good upconverter for a really good price and get the handfull of movies that were not on Blu that I wanted.

Now I'm just wating for the firesales on the disc to start, 5 for $20 is only a few months away if it take that long.

I intended to be a neutral: With the foresight and sense of timing that has earned me the title, "The Nostradamus of Sacramento, CA," () I bought my Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players in late November 2007. Oh well. Now I'll just keep my Toshiba (too many on the market being dumped), and build my Blu-Ray collection.

I am pleased at the direction things have taken (thank you WB!).

Mark

Well, when the warner news hit, Art on AVS took it badly and was being a whiney child about it. Today he said he is over it and is happy it happened and now ready to be with blu-ray 100%. He was pretty even handed but leaned red, but glad he has come around. I think as the shock wears out, most of these guys who actually love movies will realize it was for the best.

I probably have around 40+ HD-DVDs and have no plans to get rid of them. They play perfectly fine now, and hopefully will for a long time. I figure when the player eventually dies, I will be able to pick up the BD in the dollar bin at Walmart. I don’t think I will buy any more unless a really great title come out from Univ or Paramount.

I started out with HD-DVD since they were first available, lower cost, and because of the initial quality with Blu ray (and while not a contributing factor, I dislike Sony – I think for the most part they make crappy and overpriced electronics). While I now prefer BD and recognize their potential, I have no problems with HD-DVD. I don’t regret my decision – in fact if I knew originally how things would turn out, I still would have purchased the player, though probably less titles. I have been able to see some great movies in HD that I wouldn’t have been able to if I only bought into BD.

I also believe the competition has been good so far for the consumers, and hopefully the benefits do not go away.

As to answer the OP, I will keep my 2 players and all HD DVD movies, but will most likely not buy anymore HD DVD's unless they are dirt cheap. From now on I'll be buying Blu-ray, just bought two more today (Thanks Toys 'R Us... ).

I'll keep my $100 A3 and keep renting HD DVDs but i'll never buy one again (granted, I've only bought 3 not counting the freebies)

Was neutral with a preference for Blu, now 100% Blu...or about to be as soon as I've sold my EP30 and one remaining HD DVD disc.
