Default Can BDA prevent xbox from having a BD drive

I have been sitting back the past couple of days with the great news and with the future of hd dvd deteriorating, can sony prevent microsoft from having a bd drive in their new gaming system or even an add-on. Is this profitable for them to allow them to have one. With the games coming out needing the space that a bd has, microsoft has to chose something other that dvd to publish games on.

Sony/BDA could make a but load of money off of microsoft xboxs by having the drive in it. It just seems like sweet revenge if the did not allow for it to happen.

Any thoughts

I believe they will have to pay royalties for the drives. I don't think M$ would want to do that.

Default Why would they prevent it?

They should encourage it as at least an add on. Although I think the Java has issues possibly there.............

More Blu-Ray drives = More Blu-Ray Movies Sold = More HDM Market Penetration

It doesn't matter what MS do now.
Anything relate to BD will only further the success of BD, HDM, Sony and PS3.

So either way, it's a win win for PS3 at this point.

Blu-ray on an XBOX will only help Blu-Ray. It might not help PS3...

But it wont help the 360 either.

At least for us we can say we had it first.

I highly doubt they will make an add-on for the 360, because in a few years, they'll have to put out another system to keep up with the PS3. I can almost guarantee it will have a BD drive.

I don't think the BDA would have a problem letting them license the technology .. but I think MS would .. they just don't work that way.

my concern was on the gaming aspect even though looking back at my original post, i did not make that clear. I am a PS fan. I have been since the PSone (which i still own). I would just love to see MS get the shaft on a bd drive to make their next system crap. I belive they deserve it because of the whole RROD issue. I have friends that have been screwed by this.

Even if MS released a BD drive for the 360 it will only be a movies player, it will not play back games. It would be like the Sega CD, 32X add-on's from back in the day that failed.

Bill Gates says the future is not HD Disk, it's downloads, even with HD DVD dieing I don't see MS ever releasing a BD add-on drive for the 360 because it doesn't benefit them. It seams the HD DVD add-on was just to help drive sales of HD DVD to keep Blu-Ray in check and the Paramount payoff to push a stalemate. I don't think MS goal was for HD DVD to win, but to hold back Blu-Ray and force a stalemate so they could push there downloads when ready. With Blu-Ray winning the war MS releasing a Blu-Ray only benefits the consumer not MS.

They probably can, and they should, but probably won't have to:

The crapbox360 could not use the drive for games therefore it will NOT happen. They would rather users download movies on their network and SONY would rather users buy a PS3 = it's a lose/lose situation for both if Blu-Ray shows up on the crapbox 360.

The next generation of Microsoft video game console surely will have a Blu-Ray drive built in but it will be used for games AND movies but primarily Microsoft will put it in there for games (size of disk). I would'nt put it past Microsoft to ship the new console with the movie playback functions of the Blu-Ray drive "de-activated"... that way people keep downloading their movies (they would probably sell an "activation" kit or something).

I wouldn't be surprised if the Next generation Xbox did not have a disk drive at all but only a 1TB or so Hard Drive. All games and content would be bought and down loaded over Xbox live.

it doesn't need to play blu-ray games for them to make an add on it would be stupid of microsoft to not conisder a blu-ray drive for the 360. but unless a lot of 360 owners clamor for it, it probably won't happen

we're still too far off for that. and gamers won't stand for not having a physical copy of the game. how will we go to a friends house to play if its stuck on the hard drive?

the next console will be out in 3-5 years, thats not enough time to get the infrastructure up for digital distribution and what not

It's not about what gamers want it's about what the 10,000 pound gorilla aka Microsoft gives you.

Watch Xbox live.

Xbox live is MS testing ground for what they have coming next.
