You're right about that, although it's not a kinescope. A kinescope is a film of a TV monitor screen, done to preserve a live broadcast since there was no film version. This is videotape. Should be a nice boost in audio quality though.

I can hardly express my delight at this. I've watched so many T.A.M.I. clips on youtube and I was just thinking how great it would be if this got a BD release. This is my music and there is very little of it to be had on BD. Although I was born in 1958, my musical taste has always been a half generation out of step.
As an old guy, I only wish my prostate had lasted long enough to join me for this release ![]() |

Obviously, we don't know the source material for this transfer and I don't want to prejudge it but there is room for hope. I think the analogy to kinescope is a bit harsh and may be unnecessarily off-putting to some buyers who don't appreciate the technical nuances. Fingers crossed. |

This is great news! I'm in the minority who prefers THE BIG TNT SHOW to THE TAMI SHOW, but they're both great. THE BIG TNT SHOW has never been on commercial home video before, other than excerpts that appeared in a Rhino VHS release back in the 1980's.

-edit- the Wikipedia page says that several different video cameras were used, ranging from 819 line French SECAM cameras to RCA TK-60 models with up to 1400 lines. So not sure what was used for this but definitely higher res than SD. Something else that I think I remember but don't have the source ... the Beach Boys performance was cut out after the first release of the film because of a perceived legal issue, but when Dick Clark's company was getting the movie ready for DVD release they found out that there had never been a problem after all, it was a misunderstanding of some sort. So I would expect the BD to have the scene. Last edited by obscurelabel; 09-21-2016 at 08:57 AM. |

The TAMI Show videotape (most likely, despite the "Electronovision" moniker/hype, in SECAM 800-line interlaced format, recorded to 2 inch videotape) does not exist. What exists now is a film print. It's pretty much a kinescope; I can't fathom what else to call it. It was a kinescope captured from a slightly higher-than-usual resolution source, but still a kinescope. Now, scanning a kinescope in HD will still result in better resolution than SD, especially if the kinescope was captured from a higher resolution source.
Here's a post (and thread) getting into the technical details of how it was shot: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread.../#post-6108890 |

Isn't the street date actually on December 6th? That's a Tuesday.

As a bonafide historical artifact, any improvement over the fuzzy, lo-def sounding DVD will be worthwhile ...
![]() Most music products, especially CDs, come out on Fridays [as do the new 36 CD Bob Dylan Live ’66 box set and the general release for the Dylan 10th Anniversary No Direction Home BD] - and these are not the first BDs I've seen with a Friday street date. ![]() Last edited by Early Memphis; 10-06-2016 at 09:46 PM. |
