Default Help...BD Problem

I have recently noticed a problem when watching BD's on my PS3 that I never noticed before. During BD playback, in everything but very dark scenes, the picture seems to flicker or flash. It is not extremely noticable, as my wife would never see it, but it is killing me. I have tested standard dvd's and cannot see it. I can only assume it has something to do with the BD drive in the PS3 and not the TV HDMI cables, or reciever.

Can anyone PLEASE help in any way?

Do you have it set to 1080/24p output? That may be the problem if it's turned on...try it with it off and see if that works

I heard of that problem when I found out that I have to force the 24p to get my TV to display it, so I have it turned off in the PS3 settings. It has to be something else. I am may try to place the PS3 horizontal, as it is vertical now, but I doubt that is the problem.

The horizontal/vertical position should not be an issue...maybe it's the brightness of your tv, try to play around with those settings. That's prob why you don't notice it in the dark scenes

If it was a brightness issue, why would the picture flicker or flash?

What are some of the titles for which you are experiencing this?

I first noticed it on Superman II and I passed it off as the transfer. Than I started putting in other discs and testing it. I could not notice it on Underworld, but I noticed it right away on Resident Evil I. I also just watched Sunshine and did not notice it.

Well if it's not doing it for all discs then I guess it wouldn't be a brightness issue . Sounds very inconsistent so it's hard to really pinpoint where it is coming from

Agreed...it is inconsistent. I can't think of anything other than the PS3 BD drive. Is it possible that the drive operates better when horizontal? Any suggestions?

Try another HDMI cable.

Do you have the HDMI cable going into the Onkyo 605 and then another cable going into the TV?

If so, check that all cables are secure and try swapping both cables out......

Yes, the PS3 is going to the 605 through HDMI, then to the TV. The first thing I thought was the HDMI cable, but I haven't tried swapping cables because it is a pain in the ass to do it. I'll try swapping cables.

You may also try just hooking the PS3 up directly via HDMI to the TV......if it works, then there may be a receiver problem.........I've been through this stuff before and you need to isolate the component giving you the problem.....let us know and good luck.

Yesterday I hooked up the PS3 directly to the TV and it did not fix the problem. When I pop in Resident Evil 1, it looks like the screen is slightly flashing in the background. I tried some other BD's and did not notice this effect. Is it possible that I have a bad disk? Or, is the disk fine and it has not been noticed by reviewers?

No, those sorts of things are not a "bad disc"

Can you take a video of what you're seeing?

Have you tried another or new hdmi cable? If that doesn't solve it then obviously you're down to it being a tv issue (prob unlikely) or a ps3 issue. It's strange though that if it is a ps3 problem that it's not doing to it all the discs

Is there an easy way to do that and post it?

Exactly, I do not understand how I can see it on one disk, then immediately put in another disk and not see it. What really bothers me, is that it is not only one disk that I have seen it on.

Does it always happen in the same spots on these certain films? Or is random spots throughout?

Believe it or not, I have this issue myself and I have not been able to pinpoint it. Its not every disk and not every scene, but i know exactly what you are talking about and its very annoying.
