So, I have a 40 inch sammy, which is sitting on a very nice wooden media stand from pottery barn (wife's doing). My dilemma is that I want to get the CS2 center channel, but it is so tall, that it will cover up 1-1.5 inches of the lower part of my screen! How should I get around this? I cannot wall mount (in an apartment). I was thinking that I would build a wood platform, maybe 2-3 inches tall to set the TV on. It would be hidden behind the massive center. What do you guys think?

People here have done that before, just make sure that your platform is well supported. I would suggest either a couple of 2x4's or building it with at least three legs for ample support. You can then cover it with a simple black felt fabric or paint it.
