Thumbs up HD-DVD fans are turning to BD

I have noticed on some forums not related to home enterainment but where the subject is discussed that HD-DVD fans are turning to BD after months of slagging it off. Mainly because of the Sony hate. They have started to ask me questions about the best player. What are profiles, most of which are happy enough at Profile 1.1 and have no real interest in Profile 2.0. All of this is a good sign for the future as we will be relying on these HD-DVD fans when they to eventually turn BD exclusive to push our format with as much vocal support that they have been displaying on the forums.

I'm hoping that the price cuts from Toshiba doesn't make them dig their heels in and get ready for the long haul.

Well I just checked the graph for HD-DVD and it has more then doubled in the past two days.

The price cut is having some affect...at least at the moment.

I can't even imagine the thought process that would make price cuts on players make someone already in the war turn to HD.

You've already got the player, price cuts can not help you.

And you'd have to be awfully short-sighted to think that price cuts will help HD-DVD now when they never have in the past...

Possibly the current dud owners are buying additional dud players as a backup for when they (original players) begin to fall apart.

Well it let's them know that Toshiba wasn't ready to lay down and die. They'll see this as an opportunity to get reinforcements and it may strengthen their resolve. Some may see it for what it is a fire sale, but these HD-DVD supporters are persistant and pesky. If you don't think Toshiba and their customers aren't short-sighted then you are giving them too much credit...they're nothing if not short-sighted and moves like this only hurt mass adoption.

EDIT: Don't forget about the uninformed people that will see the sales as a perfect time to jump into HDM.

We really should not be worried about cheap players again.

What good is a player with no movies to play on it?
In a few months the DUD aisle is gonna start getting pretty thin.

Yes, Toshiba is now targeting the "dumb ass" niche of the market.

I utterly agree with this, most people in here are declairing game over for HD-DVD - this firesale could very weel just put them back in the game..

Af for the last bit, one can only hope that the few salesmen who still have HDDVD players in their store, have the decency to be honest and tell people that HD DVD only has 30% of the movie industry behind it

I agree that movies will get thin, but my concern is that they'll start preaching about momentum again and they'll get all these people drinking the kool-aid. They might even get Paramount and Universal to start releasing more movies than normal just to make it appear less thin...which will fool the uninformed which is really who these price cuts are intended for.

Well with a rapidly incresing sale of HD DVD players, there is nothing that keeps the studios from switching back or going dual..?
Warner says its going blu only, but if this firesale results in there being as many HD DVD players as there are blu, what will keep them or any company blu exclusive, when theres money to be made in both camps..

I have noticed the past weeks, that many red ants have turned purple Good for us!!

For the cheap HD-DVD-players is my only reaction to this - buying more blu-ray-movies and let Toshiba see, that cheap players have none effect what so ever

The price cuts are probably intended to move existing inventory as fast as they can before Joe Public figures out that hddud is dead!!

The BBC also said they are neutral probably till the stock of Planet Earth sets are shipped and sold to the consumers. Planet Earth actually did well on hddud, so they probably manufactured a bunch of them.

They are all trying to sell what they have before the end.

Right...this is what I was saying about it being for the uninformed, but Toshiba likes to talk about momentum. Toshiba is like the villain in a horror movie that you thought you killed, but they're actually still alive and ready to kill you. We can't rest until we put them away for good. That's why I don't like claiming that Blu won just because the opponent is still alive and can still cause damage to our format of choice. There are a lot of people who would really rather see HD-DVD win so they'll do anything to see their vision come to fruition...that includes lying, cheating, and stealing.

+1

And there is no mention of NEW players in the pipeline so this is an 2 prong effort to clear inventory and to save face by giving it one more "Hail Mary"
