Default Local Best Buy Report

So i went to best buy today looking for a digital camera. well right across the walkway is the high def displays, 2 blu-rays and 1 hd-dvd. i look at the hd-dvd display to realize no discs from under the television were gone, and no one within 20 feet of the thing. the blu-ray one (20ft away) was constantly surrounded by people, at least 10-15 throughout the time i was looking at cameras not to mention half of the titles under it were wiped out, literally. the shelves were ransacked like people had pushed each other out of the way not caring what they got their hands on. just found this very interesting.

Most, if not all, stores are changing their setups a little with the holidays coming to an end. It's kind of crazy since the stores seem to be doing it without any official planograms to follow...
I'm waiting to come in and see couches on top of TVs and other oddities with associates standing around like "How is possible?"

over here in the Bay Area, CA....it's about 50/50 space, but I noticed the Blu-Ray side inventory was depleting. The HD-DVD side was full - seems like it was untouched or not moving off the shelves...very few buying them.

i have 2 local BB they are completely 50/50 in self space but at the front they more blu displays than dvd and back in the hdtv section there are constant blu comercials and at the main hd disc section the blu section is always runing low on something and its super crowded. ive never seen a single person in the hddud section. im a frequent visiter to both and i dont think hddud stock has changed in months!

same thing happens to the Fry's near me... although this particular Fry's have the same amount of shelf space for both Blu and HD-DVD, the Blu area is like the hang-out area... people gathering, talking to each other about movies... generally a nice community area for Blu lovers. It's lonely on the HD-DVD side... there's usually one guy there who slowly schmoozes over to the Blu side... it's like... you don't even want to be seen being in the HD-DVD area... more embarrassing than being seen in the porn section.

My Best Buy was just as packed with people looking at the Blu-ray discs to the point where you couldn't walk down the isle. Simply awesome.

I went to my local BJ's yesterday and was surprised to see a Blu-Ray End cap. Not a huge selection of titles but it was not there before Christmas. BTW,there was not a Hd-Dvd in the house.

The BJ's i frequent dropped HD dud a long time ago. I believe they announced that they were dropping the format a while ago.

Common Mystik... be a bad girl --> You and your fiancee (congrats BTW) should dump all those DUD movies in Best Buy liquidation bins where they belong

P.S. I would have said dump them in the Best Buy dumpster but I would'nt want you to get into trouble

The nearest BB here has about equal shelf space for HD-DVD and Blu but probably has 30-35% more stock in the BD section as there are a large number of titles there with the spines facing out. The HD-DVD section is chock full while the popular titles in the BD section were down to a very few copies but in both cases it appears that every movie released in either format in the US was present and accounted for.

Those crowds are usually in awe of the 120hz "3-D" effect on the displayed Samsung. But that probably does convince many to buy or at least see the power of blu-ray.

The bestbuy near me has 2 Blu-ray players and 1 HD DVD in the front, both blu-ray's were showing the demo discs, but on the HD DVD tv it was advertising a media center software.

I know this is the Best Buy report but I just wanted to say that I was at my local Wal Mart last night and there are now twice as many blu-rays as there are hd dvds.
