With all that has happened in the last week, I am pretty sure that Wal-Mart is going to keep out of is this time. I don't think they are going to want to have to deal with all the returns of the worthless players when people realize they are only getting a player with support from two studios. Just think, when Warner annouced this, the people who bought those players at Wal-Mart cannot return them now. It is too late.

It is the beginning of the end for HD DVD. Lower prices didn't claw Betamax back into the game for Sony, and they sure aren't going to do it for HD DVD either.

I suspect this is more of a move on the part of the retailers to dump any remaining stock before word spreads any farther. The longer they wait, the more likely it will be that the general public will hear about the end of the format war, and the more likely it will be that they will get stuck with unsaleable inventory.

There was some nice Blu-ray advertising during the NFL playoffs this weekend ... complete with full-screen Wal-Mart tags at the end. The implication was pretty clear: Blu-ray is the choice for HD optical media.
