8K? When are we going to get 16K and 32K? Honestly, the difference seems so subtle it's probably not a big deal beyond better storage space for disc media. Manufacturers are always pushing with new R&D, but often try to force it on consumers as "the next big thing" before we even had a chance to really enjoy 1080p for 10 years.
Blu Ray 3D in 1080p is perfect IMO, but I know those with 4K 3DTVs said it the best 3D can be on a TV anyway. Blu-ray never really developed any way to have a blu ray recorder sold separately from a computer. Like a DVD recorder, which is still useful today to watch or remember certain TV shows. Just doing a quick search on a store site for "blu ray recorder" and it'll bring up lots of external computer recorders, but lucky to find a single standalone TV blu-ray recorder. |

The main advantage I see 8K offering is dual polarised 4K with no resolution loss.
Considering how so many (most?) movies are still mastered at 2k even today, by the time there is sufficient 8K content with 8K levels of detail, my eyes will probably be passed the point where they can tell the difference. |

Eer since we went from VHS (or Beta, or one of those to Laser Disc, then) to DVD, we've to;ld we have clearer resolution and thougt that was enough. Blu Ray was sold as High DefinitioN DVD, as if DVD wasn't enough. Then (skipping 3D for a minute) we got to 4k resolution and 30 bit color, as if B;lu ray was trash. now we hear news of 8K? And we'll jeep adding K until we're satisfied. I got a question...
How many K do we need until we're satisified? 8k? 16k? 32K? 64k? (The beauty of the Arabic numbering system compared to the Roman is any number you can think of I can double. compared to anything beyond 3,888 to be called Legion, so how would 12 thousand on the All-Saints Day gospel be written in Latin using only Roman Numerals?) In terms of sound you went from Mono to Stereo, whihc was a one-dimensional sound to Pro Logic, a 2-dimensoinal sound, to AC3 aka Dolby 5.1 when, if you listen in a headphone envronemtn replicates 3D sound) After 3D sound where do you sgo/ nmore accurate versions of 3D sound? At least when we get to 3 dimensions, where do you go from there? (I guess there's "motion movies" like at Universal Studios.) But in terms of depth perception, there s no such thing as 4D if you're talking about the visible universe, (in the most traditional sense. You could add time, but that's accommodated by pressing the fast forward and rewind buttons. ![]() |

It’s not about creating an experience where you can have what you want in focus as in real life (that’s not what movies are about) but if they can solve the fact that your eyes have to focus on your screen but converge on things ‘in front’ of it, that would be a better experience.

But I agree, not being able to focus on everything in frame is not an issue that can/should be sorted for narrative cinema. Last edited by Rickyrockard; 09-01-2019 at 07:08 AM. |

There has been 16K & 18K camera gear for quite sometime now. Some people are just not informed as to whats what.
4K kit was never truly fourkay, as was the whole real native 4k debacle. There of course will be vocal advocates claiming they either knew about this or 'its not real' lark. Well, kiddies try checking out the view options on this & pay special attention to whats said in this video. Try learning something instead of having a closed minded attitude too new information. ![]() We've had this red screen since the analogue signal was switched off a decade ago and there is no indication anything is ever going to be done about it. In that context, talk of 4K or 8K programming in the UK is an absolute joke. |

I remember many complaining when they upgraded to a new HD telly some years back that they didn't really see any difference.....when they weren't even watching HD programmes. |

it is so common with customers at my work to have a 2013/2014/2014 3d tv full hd or 4k, and we offer a replacement that has non 3d, and the old tv handles SD and HD better than the new 'super' 4k sets so many 4k tvs are v dark and handle upscaling badly so the non 4k stuff looks shocking! id rather buy a 2nd hand 3d 4k tv than a new set these days, easy so many cheap,crap4k tvs flooding the market now not to say some arent good, oleds are stunning (apart from burn in!) and most sonys have a great picture |
