Saw it last friday.
Best article they've written yet

But seriously, they are totally right. Toshiba needs to learn that this has gone to far! Back out or loose face.

Yeah, but I didn't mind reading it again.

Expect to see more of this kind of thing, hopefully it will add to the pressure for them to concede.

Toshiba is an embarrassment something that goes against everything in the Japanese culture. They should be mocked and ridiculed for this stupid decision.

Toshiba knows they have lost. They are just trying to make as much money as they can with the players they already manufactured.....

Toshiba is certainly not doing the "honorable" thing. They are playing it out like a child, they just need to LET IT GO.

Honor is huge in their culture. I am extremely surprised that they are choosing this path.

Honor is what Sony and the BDA have even been considering when the reports came out that they are concidering making appends with the people who chose HD-DVD.

Toshiba has lost more than the war, they have lost their honor.

You're right, but culture is nonexistent in today's modern capitalist business. It's unfortunate, but true. There are some companies that still believe in morality and ethics, but unless the law requires them to, they will never hold those ideals above profits.

Kudos to the author, he is right on.

As far as other coments, Toshiba had a chance to gracefully exit this war, to save face, but apparently they chose not to. And I think this is a mistake: think of all the HD-DVD fans, especially those that are Sony-haters - they would rather buy a Toshiba universal player that the one from LG or Samsung.

Now that they have just 2 studios support and they are destined to fail yet still persist in pushing product to a dead end product one wonders if all the new buyers stuck with their crap have a legal right for compensation. Its one thing to push on in hope but if you know your selling a dead format then there should be some kind of protection for the consumer.

Toshi...waste! You think they care about consumers. Maybe they are trying to reverse the word "Dead" to "Daed". They are about to lose face.

The entire industry outside of Toshiba wants the war over. Retailers believe with one format that it will help sales of expensive tvs and players. Studios want to start moving customers from low priced dvds to Blu-rays. Manufacturers see no profit in HD DVD players and don't want it. The only people still rooting for HD DVD are the diehard fans that stupidly have built up huge libraries of a soon to be obsolete format.

Toshiba knows the war is over but for the sake of its dvd revenue will do anything it can to slow Blu-ray's eventual dominance.

I hate Toshiba...

In fact, if my wife didn't like having it in the bedroom, I would take the 55 inch Toshiba DLP that got shoved in the bedroom after I bought my front projector, outside and smash it with my goddamn fists...

What an anti-consumer, pro money cum-guzzlin, BS shift in mission statement...

Ok I am irratated.

I love Toshiba's TV's and laptops but they are now getting on my nerves.

What are they doing? Basically trying to make it, if we can't win no one can.

They can take they 149 HD DVD players and shove them.

GIVE UP already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't a prominent Chinese businessperson kill himself when it was revealed that his companies' toys contained lead paint?
