I've watched The Hunt for Red October on 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and in a couple of scene the black bars turned kinda greyish. They were really noisy. A similar thing was with the movie Skyscraper. Is this a problem with the Dolby Vision layer?
If someone with the movie wants to check, jump to time 2:02:30, underwater shot of the passing by sub. Playback with a Oppo UDP 203 on LG OLED C7 - Both Devices are on the current firmware. UPDATE 1 Geoff told me on how to disable Dolby Vision with the Oppo and after testing it, I can confirm that this is a problem with the Dolby Vision layer. When the movie is played in HDR10 the black bars stay solid black. UPDATE 2 After I've changed Dolby Vision Processing from Player-led to TV-led, the black bars are now solid black ![]() Last edited by bendermac; 05-09-2019 at 04:32 PM. Reason: update |

The TV is at 04.70.85 - Firmware Check says "No updates available". But this might be just a different number for US Region vs Germany.
The Oppo is up to date As for stripping the DV: Not possible. When DV is available, the Oppo isn't able to switch to HDR10. I've already tried that. |

I like the theory of Dolby Vision, I really do.
The problem is, I've yet to see a satisfactory presentation. Maybe it's just my TV (LG LED), I don't know, but Power rangers has elevated blacks and Star Wars The Last Jedi had annoying brightness shifts on my TV. HDR10 might have not have dynamic metadata, but it just works for me without issue. |

There's an issue with LG TVs having elevated blacks. There's supposed to be a firmware fix, not sure why the OP hasn't got it. I was fortunate enough to have that update come through about a week after purchasing my first DV-capable player, so I've never really had to deal with the problem.

Mine's a 2016 LED model. I guess they won't be fixing it now.

Canada is the same as the USA. See https://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/sof...P&superCateId=
Please note that is for a 55/65 C7, if you have a different model then it would be different. |

The beta software could not be updated to the official version as a FYI. Functionally the TV sees it as the same. ![]() |

![]() Unfortunately there is no reinstall possible for a consumer, unless LG puts out a another software update. |
