DNR remove noise/fine grain, but also detail. For Pure Video mode, like DVD and Blu-Ray you don't need that.
DNR was create to remove noise in poor cable reception. Depending on the level, personally i would put that at OFF.. but it's just me.. |

My personal preference is to set those to off, unless the source (like a TV broadcast) is very noisy. (NOTE: not talking about film grain here, ya hear me?
![]() ![]() So mmm, get a great looking transfer, Casino Royale, POTC 1, etc, etc, set NR to off, adjust sharpness to look fine and natural with those good looking discs while watching from your normal sitting position. Then watch a few movies like that for a while so your great transfers become familiar, and THEN if you find some movies (or TV programs) that seem noisy, you might try turning NR on them if you think they look better with NR (w/o readjusting sharpness after that, of course). And remember to turn it off again when you pop in another new movie ![]() |

For watching Blu-rays, turn noise reduction on your TV OFF. Noise reduction just blurs the picture. It is meant to clean up low-quality TV broadcasts, not a clean HD signal from your Blu-ray player.
And set sharpness on your TV to ZERO. The sharpness setting ARTIFICIALLY BOOSTS sharpness, and does a bad job of it, so all you get is exaggerated grain and jagged edges. |

I try to leave my video as much as possible alone, so DNR is off, sharpness is off and temperature at D6500.
