Talking Great news for Blu-ray (Top 10 Blu, 85:15)

"The product announcements come in a week when the top 10 high-definition disc sellers are all Blu-ray Disc releases, according to an analysis of Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales numbers by Home Media Magazine’s market research department.

Net HD DVD sales, according to Nielsen, constituted only 15% of hi-def disc sales last week. And the top HD DVD seller, The Kingdom, sold just 10% as many copies as the top Blu-ray Disc release, 3:10 to Yuma."

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_ID=11894

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

"This would presumably be for the week ending 1/13, and thus would be the first actual reporting data potentially reflecting the impact that the Warner announcement may have on HD-DVD software sales."

The ratio is 85:15 according to that article. We'll see if that holds tomorrow.

it will so funny! all HDDVD took was one blow to go from 30%-45% down to 15%. While Blu-ray took many blows over the past 6 months (Paramount defection, Transformers HDDVD exclusive, $99-$149 HDDVD players), all of this couldnt shake the Power of Blu! We stayed on top the entire time. Sure the BOGOs helped that Transformer's week, buta win is a win is a win!

Its all downhill the the boys in red!

The sales on ebay (To$h HD DVD players) are in full effect. Somebody posted last night an article that indicates that HD DVd players on sale at ebay outnumber the amount of blu-ray players on sale by a 6-1 margin

Elmers: "Look! We're outselling Blu-Ray at a margin of 6-1, at a major online retailer! HD-DVD is clearly the choice of the consumers where value is concerned!"
Elmers in training: "eBay is a major online retailer?"
Elmers: "Quiet, you!"

my question is with seeing 85 for blu it makes me wonder what makes hd-dvd still in the market? i guess they will just keep going and going until its 100 for blu and even then it will be like get a hd-dvd player for free with purchase of 2 movies just to even keep them in the market

Great to see, course hd-dvd releases as of late have sucked anyway...so I'm sure that supports this 85:25 lead for blu.

I hope that the lead just gets bigger and bigger...HD-DVD seems like it's about to be taken off the map.

Heh, giving away free players with purchase of a few movies would be an interesting twist, wouldn't it? But it does make sense in the context of clearance sales, as it would help get rid of stock in a way where they're not ripping off the consumer and avoiding future returns, since it would be acknowledged that you're buying a dead format.

Blu-ray Owns Top 10 Sales Chart, HD DVD Down and Out
Posted by Victor Dangelo | Jan 17, 2008 09:49

According to figures released by Nielsen, Blu-ray Disc releases made up the entire top 10 high-definition disc sales chart, with not one HD DVD movie to be found on the list.

The sales for HD DVD releases made up only 15% of the high definition sales last week.

The top seller for the HD DVD format was The Kingdom which managed to sell only 10% as many copies as the best seller for the Blu-ray format, 3:10 to Yuna.

The HD DVD format is not done and out yet though as many big releases are still planned for it. This includes a combo disc release of American Gangster, as well as The Kit Runner, Bee Movie, Into the Wild, as well as a two-disc special edition of the hit Twister.

Excellent news. Looks like WB titles on HD-DVD must be zero?

we should hold the top 10 from now on. When American Gangster comes out it might get in there but it might be in Blu too by then

Is HDDVD going to take this beating? They really need to gracefully throw in the towel if this continues for a month or so.

I believe that both Twister and Into the Wild will be released on both formats. So, HD DVD will tank, in comparison, on both titles. Besides, given that these titles are releasing in a few or several weeks from now, the dynamics could change even more *against* HD DVD. More folks will have switched to, or over to, Blu, sending HD DVD sales plummeting even further--especially if retailers stop carrying HD DVD.

I would not be at all optimistic at this point for HD DVD 1-4 months out.
