Default Anyone with a Denon AVR-987 or 2807?

I'd like to discuss settings.

I may not be as smart as I thought.

I have a 2807, but I'm definitely not as smart as you thought.

PM me, if you like.

Well if I find an audio expert, maybe we can both learn a couple of things.

I have a 2308, what are you wanting to discuss? I may be able to provide some input. On another note, how do you like your Sci. ATL HD box?

re: the SA8300HD, it's been great. It's got an HDMI output which is nice. My system consists of three cables: one blu-->avr, one SA-->avr and one avr-->lcd.

As far as the Denon question I was looking for audio set-up settings using HDMI inputs. I'm not sure I've got them right, but I think I do.

I'm using HDMI from the S301 to the Denon 987. I'm sure I have this thing set up correctly, but...

No matter what audio format the Blu-ray is playing (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.) the Denon displays "WIDE SCREEN".

Anyone?

I think it would be a good idea to just post what questions you have. Many people probably feel like I do about their audio settings, i.e. not an expert but may be able to help with specific problems.

I have a 2807 and was using it with my HT setup. I haven't used it in a couple of months since I added my panasonic BD30 and I upgraded to the 3808. When I was using the 2807 it was paired with a PS3, connected via HDMI and in a 5.1 speaker arrangement. What did you need to know about settings?

edit: NM, I see what you're asking. Let me check into this a second and I'll see what I can come up with/remember...

Wide Screen is one of the modes that you can select under DSP Surround Simulation. I think the way to cancel this is to select 7.1 channel stereo. It may say 5.1 rather than 7.1 depending on your speaker arrangement. If you have your manual handy you should be able to find it under DSP Simulation Modes in there. Play around with that and I'll see if I can find anything else also

Thanks for your reply. As soon as I get a break in the Charger/Pats game I'll play with the 7.1.

Another note I saw in the 2807 manual that looks like it might fix things for you. On the receiver or the remote you should have a button called input mode. This will toggle thru a bunch of options like Auto, Analog, Digital, DTS etc. If you set that to Auto, I think it might take care of everything for you.

AD --

Thanks for your replies. I've been too close to the forest to see the trees, I suppose. Your first reply was actually correct. Input Mode was set to AUTO and the receiver was switching audio input formats correctly, but I couldn't get it out of the DSP Simulation Mode menu circle and WIDE SCREEN was all it ever displayed. I pressed the 7.1 button, and it cancelled it. Now it reads 5 CHANNEL STEREO with the appropriate DTS, DD, etc. icon backlit..

This was driving me crazy.

Glad to be of help

I vaguely remember having the same issues when I first set mine up. I love Denon, but all the various options can drive you crazy trying to figure out what's what. Especially for a total noob like I was when I got my 2807. Enjoy the awesome sound.
