Default Denon AVR-987 Sound Question

I plan on doing some rewiring today , but I have a question.

My current set-up for Blu-Ray is. Sony BDPS-300 HDMI to the TV and the optical running to the AVR-987. This is how the DVD player I replaced was set up. So, I plan on running the HDMI into the AVR-987 and I was wondering can anyone tell me what the best sound setting I will get?
The receiver is a little over a year old and my wife may actually kill me if I replace it

Thanks for the help.

Well, the only Lossless audio the S300 will pass is Uncompressed PCM.

so I believe you want to set it on bitstream for Dolby and Dts

in the S300 Audio options (pg 47 user manual)

Dolby Digital = Dolby Digital
Dts = Dts
Dts Downmix = Does not apply when dts is set to dts. so dont worry about it.
Audio (HDMI) = Auto

Thanks crackinhedz.

With the optical it is passing Uncompressed PCM,but only as 2 channels. I'm hoping the HDMI can pass as 5.1. That should hold me until I can sweat talk the wife for a new receiver.

I was looking through the 987 user manual, and could not find any solid info on if hdmi will pass multichannel pcm?

if that turns out to be the case, you may want to give this thread a read:

Have an old school receiver and want Lossless audio??

Crackinhedz,

Thanks again for the help. Finally has a chance to rewire and test and the 987 does pass multichannel pcm thru the hdmi. Used xXx to test and could real hear the difference switching from PCM 5.1 (uncompressed) and the DD 5.1. Really happy

anyway thought you may want to know
