If I remember correctly, someone posted some time ago that the German Blu-ray transfer of Silent Hill was better than that of the US.

This is an excellent question I've been meaning to ask as well. I've always wondered whether the PQ was any different for the import blu-rays. If so, I would like to be more cautious as to which imports I pay top dollar for.

All the same-studio stuff will be identical across all regions

The differences will come when it's owned by a different company different places

I have the German version of Silent Hill and it is really good. Some of the darkness becomes a little pixelated at times but it is otherwise great. I haven't seen the US version so I don't know what to compare. I guess I got lucky. I wasn't aware of the difference.

But like what someone already said, the key is in looking at who is distributor. If it is the same one as the US, UK or wherever, you will see the same transfer used. In the case of Silent Hill, it was released by Concorde in Germany. From what I know, Warner releases across all regions. Buena Vista can vary by country.

I was thinking of listing the distributors of BD's(non US) that I have but I remembered the page with the region codes also lists the dist. Check there.

The US release of Pan's Labyrinth reportedly has been DNR'd but the UK and German releases (region free according to bluray.liesinc.net) are fine according to the AVS EE/DNR thread.

Anyone know what the audio is like on the UK release?
