Angry Blu-ray Regional Encoding

Please Please Please tell me that you are doing away with the archaic method of Regional Encoding, akin to the PAL, NTSC Vx.x, and 1, 2, 3, ...

I really hate having to reconfigure my DVD settings or having to buy additional componets to correct this "programmed defect". I want to be able to purchase a Blu-ray in Japan or Austrailia, or England and have the dang thing play! It is not worth my 2K - 4K to invest in this product if you are not going to remedy this VHS orginating problem.

Japan is part of the America region. It is everyone else you have to worry about. Thank god I have a region free HD-DVD player though.

BD has 3 regions. Japan and America is 1. Europe is 2. And Asia excluding Japan is 3. I'm not sure where South America and Australia fit in there.

Some time ago when this first did the rounds, Australia was in with the US, however I suspect they will be in the "other" group. Manfacturers and studios have been quick to point out that it won't be implemented. I think the question should be then well why implement it in any of the players or standard. The way things have gone a movie takes much more space on the disc than it needs to. Anyone got 30GB free for DRM!!!!!

Angry NO Regional Encoding

This is an archaic method of trying to protect release dates... With worldwide distribution dates, we no longer need this method... JAPAN and Austraila as well as Europe and Canada should all be the same freaking region. This is senseless.

I will not be buying a blu-ray if they do not remove the encoding

True. Who cares about release dates?

The Blu-ray movie region codes are different from the DVD region codes.
The following are the region codes for Blu-ray discs:

Region code: Area
A: North America, South America, East Asia except for China
B: Europe and Africa
C: China, Russia and other countries

I do agree. I think region coding is quite retarded.

All it does is screw the consumer over from getting a choice in their entertainment. If you want a Japanese movie (or with BR, say Chinese) in its original form, remastered and everything because the US company that licensed it decided to edit it, change the music, and give it a dub they just had 3 actors do, TOUGH!! You either get the version the US company throws at you, or do without. That movie from Russia you want that no one will license, too bad, you don't deserve it because you aren't Russian.

Oaky, now I'm just blabbing...

Even if I think region coding sucks big time, I'm still glad that the region coding for Blu-ray is not that POS compared to the DVD era.

Fortunately, at that time, my Pioneer DVD player was already region-free so I could still watch Monty Python Holy Grail on that Region 3 designated player.

There are rumors that you'll still be able to watch things from all regions on any player.
