It sounds like a PS3 alien abduction. Put a lead blanket around it and all will be ok

I've had an issue where it goes green and grainy, sometimes for a split second, sometimes it just does it for quite some time.

It's pretty inconsistant and happened since it was new, but it will be okay for a couple or three months, then do it again etc.

Not sure if it's heat related or cable related...

Warranty expires on March 23rd since I got it when it came out in the UK sooooo, maybe I should send it back but I don't want to be without it for a while.
Bah.

Never seen anything like that on my 3 PS3s. Perhaps the wifey's adding some special mushrooms to your pasta sauce.

Are you saying the screen flashes when you're playing a movie?

How do you know it's not the TV or the cable? It could be some glitch in the TV's implementation of HDMI, for example.

This happens to my PS3 occasionally, when it occurs the only way to clear the purple or green is to power off the unit and turn it back on. If you try to play the movie/game you are using, it is completely colored either purple or green. You can still see the images, just the screen is completely colored in a bright hue either purple or green. Kinda frustrating when it happens. It has occured six times on my system since September.

I think I have the same issue as you Jurrasic, though I can only remember green.

What TV do you have? Sharp Aquos here.

Default Green Screen

I had that happening for a while with my 20gig PS3 after about 4 months of flawless performance (purchased in Jan. 07). Next thing that started happening was that it would give me error messages when trying to read Blu Rays about 20% of the time. Finally it just crapped out on me. Luckily, Sony had a 1 year warranty at the time, so I shipped it to them and got a new one a week and a half later.

Well, after sending out my 20 gig, I decided I wanted Wi-fi and a larger hard drive so I bought a 60 gig unit with a 2 year Best Buy warranty. When I got the 20 gig replacement unit back, I gave that to my mom (she loves playstation games!).

Both the 60 gig and 20 gig PS3s have beem flawless ever since. In my case, the first unit just plain failed on me and the green screen was one of the first signs of that (for me anyways).

The green and purple flashes occur during HDCP handshakes, so if you are seeing them in the middle of a movie or game or something, then something is wrong with the connection and it is having to renegotiate. Could be your PS3, your cable or your set, or just that the cable isn't plugged in quite firmly enough.

It happenned to me a while back, I called Sony about it and they told me it was power interference, I disconnected all the cables (including the TV, the DVD player and the sound system, heck even the nintendo Wii) and problem solved. The guy also told me to plug the PS3 directly to the wall outlet so I did that. I was using the component cable at the time since it was the pre-HDTV era for me. Now I have an HDTV using HDMI and no problems whatsoever.

It's a video fault.

Could be heat, could just be a video fault.

sometimes my tv will go green or pink while ps3 is on if i change channel output. i will need to turn off tv and it will go back normal. i dunno maybe it happened if tv change the video resolution from 480 to 1080 i or p and remain on green or pink color instead of colors?

Call Sony service and run it by them. I would not wait to see what "may" be wrong.

Anyone with a Samsung LNT xx61, 65 or 66 should call Samsung about the flashes and have their mainboard replaced. I bought mine back in April when the problem was widespread, but has since been corrected. I have no idea if those who have had similar problems on different brands or models can get theirs fixed, but you can find the thread for those TVs at avsforums to find that the problem has been fixed for them.

No problems whatsoever with my 20GB PS3. It happily does it's job and doesn't complain about anything
