Id there some reason to say this I am missing? It's not like all Sony releases are BD-Rs now, just some they don't think will sell.

Finally... At this point, can we just release a 4K UHD disc while we're at it?

Few people seem to admire this grand biopic. I'm one of them. Been waiting for this announcement for quite a while.

I actually don't like it much but I love everything else Michael Mann so I feel like I have to own it anyway.

Yeah, I do that (buy films I'm not over the moon about) when it's a filmmaker I deeply admire.

It would be nice if it were both cuts.

It would be nice if it had the first two cuts. That was my first thought when I read that this morning. Then I read farther down and saw that there really probably will be a new cut. I recently went through all my Mann movies that I have digital copies of. I'm too busy to actually sit down to watch movies, it took me 4 days over two weekends to watch Trick R Treat, but I can watch 4-5 movies a week on my phone. Anyways I didn't think I had Ali but I had done a disc to digital awhile back. I hadn't watched it since the theatrical cut came out on DVD, and at the time I thought it was good, but didn't have much rewatchability. I passed on the directors cut until about a year ago I found it for cheap. I guess the D2D redeemed as the theatrical cut, so I still haven't seen the directors cut. I still think it's well done, and the performances are good, but even for a biopic it seems to wander too much. I'll need to give the directors cut a watch someday, and I'll be picking up this new blu regardless.

I didn't care for it much, but I'm one of the few who liked Miami Vice. So I know how you feel.

I hated Miami Vice the first time I watched it, but it really grew on me with repeated viewings.

Not a bd-r. It's a special edition with Mann's participation.

Michael Mann is one of my favorite directors, but this is one of his lesser films imo.

Will Smith was badly miscast.

Do you know if it's the new cut he talked about last year?

My real problem with Ali was a script that seemed all over the map with no narrative cohesion. I thought Smith was fine in the title role, but it's definitely weaker Mann.

As I own all his other films on blu, it's still a must have to complete my collection...unless pigs fly and he wants to release The Keep.
