Default Toshiba HD DVD players on clearance at Walmart?

Over at Digital Bits, they have revealed some interesting pictures of Toshiba HD DVD players on clearance at Walmart. Now dont jump to conclusions but is this just a one off, or are other Walmart stores going to follow. There's only one way to find out. Wait and see.

The rumor is that the old A3 stock with 300/Bourne included are being clearenced and being replaced with Bourne1/Bourne2 movie bundle A3 units.
I guess this is Toshiba's way of sticking it to Warner.

Well, at my local Walmart they are selling the Toshiba with the 300/Bourne bundle for 148, marked down from 300. And...they don't seem to be moving. Went there 5 days apart and the boxes were literally in the same positions they were in the first time I saw them. LOL

walmart.com has the A30 for $169.28 and the A3 for $139.28.

A30

A3

Is that normal?

Yeah, for some reason that just doesn't seem plausible. Why take a [bigger] loss just to recycle the bundled disks?

I know HD DVD fanbois don't live in reality, but that's the most nonsensical "rumor" I've ever heard. No one puts something on clearance in order to re-release the exact same product with a different "free" pack-in.

If they were going to change the pack-in, they would just start shipping the exact same sku'd product with a different pack-in. They wouldn't clearance out the current product to bring back out the same thing.

But, hey, whatever helps them sleep at night.

Exactly. It's not like Warner is making any more for these discs as discs sold...Toshiba would have already paid for them.
