Default Best time to buy an HDTV?

I have heard that the best time to buy an HDTV is in April because the Japanese fiscal year starts in May, May is when the new models are released, so April is when the old models go on sale. With prices of HDTV's already down significantly from before Christmas do you think they will continue to drop until April? Or are they all on sale now for the Suprbowl, and this is the best time to buy? (Pioneer 60" Plasma is normally listed at 6499, but is on sale for $4999)

Thanks

Going into summer is a good time to pick up last years model on the way out. Im considering either the new gen (coming soon) of panny plasmas or last years Kuro plasma 5080.

Summer is not really a good time to pick up the new models.

Ok I was just purchased a Sharp Aquous 37 inch 1080p LCD for $998 at Brandsmart. Can't compare to an XBR, but not bad at all for a bedroom TV.

Aquos is a good tv. Not many lcd's compare to the 1080p XBR lcd's though.

The best time is now in Superbowl time and holiday season. Especially now because a few stores offer up to 3 years no interest, which means you have that long to pay it off without paying anything extra, just the ticket cost. The 3 year deal rarely pops up any other time of year.

Presidents Day is coming up soon too. Feb 18 I think? The retailers usually have some big sales for that holiday.

Actually, the BEST time to buy a tv is when the tv you want costs exactly what you can afford. Period.

I wish I can wait for the new Panny 2008 plama lineup. I have no regret cause u cant really afford to waste time not to watch blu-ray movies. U should just go out and buy urself an HDTV tomorrow instead all these waiting time. u should have enjoy urself by now at u home with all those nice blu-ray movie instead of posting thead on internet.

I agree about waiting on the 2008 panny plasmas. I think their 1080p's will have a very high PQ. These and the new sammy led dlp's should be interesting. 61" should be around $2500

I'm fixing to get one myself once I can afford it. But I can't start saving for it hardcore until after mothers day. Oh well.

But yes....if you can afford it. Then I can envy you. lol

I will wait until this fall to buy (if I can wait until november that would be great).

I am waiting for the new Pioneers and I also check the new Panasonic. I do hope that the price on the Pioneers will go down a bit, cause I think I'll have a hard time convincing my gf that I will spend $4k on a 1080p 50 inch set, if other manufacturers have 1080p 50 inch sets for around $2.5k$.

Oh well maybe I'll just tell her that I paid 2500 for it!

I think the new gen panny's are going to rival current gen kuro's in black levels, especially if they hit the 30000:1 CR.

Im torn between the next gen 50" panny or the next gen sammy led dlp at 61".

If the led dlp is an improvement over the current model, it will be my fav.

And don't forget that the big stores have 30 (or even 60) -day price guarantees.

The samsung HL-T5089S LED DLP was reviewed in the last issue of widescreen review and also in the flatscreen faceoff featured in Home Theater magazine (don't remember if it was the same model in HT mag). Two issues were noted in wsr: black levels and viewing angle. And in HT mag, it was in the bottom two (if I remember correctly)... And the previous

Perhaps in a few generation, these sets will get better but I wouldn't buy this generation.

So in another world go with the Panasonic!

Black Friday and The run-up to the Super Bowl! One thing is for sure, never when they launch the new line up!

Ummm. I read it on CNNmoney.com. It's March, not may, but that's where the "Crap" came from. http://money.cnn.com/2006/01/20/pf/b...uy_everything/
