Default PS3 Blu Ray Remote?

My sixaxis just died on me and I no longer have an interest in gaming. I was thinking of replacing the sixaxis with a remote since i just want to watch Blu rays. Just want to ask if its possible to turn on your PS3 using a remote?

After watching about 2 movies on the PS3 using the SixAxis, I went out and bought the remote. Much, much better. My only gripe with it is that the console will turn on if you hit ANY button on the remote . . . and then to turn it off, in order to make sure the prompt to turn the console off, you have to have the TV on. Annoying, especially when you're getting ready to walk out the door and the cat walks across the remote. A dedicated power button would have been nice, but it's still a million times better than the SixAxis.

On my old PS3 I only used the PS3 controller and it was alright, a little slow. Since I got my new PS3 and I don't own any games, the first two things I got were an HDMI cable and a Blu-ray remote and I haven't been disappointed with either. The remote makes it really easy to use.

I disagree... You don't have to turn the TV on. I just click the PS button for seconds and click Enter twice (you will hear the click sound) when I turn off. You might need some practice though.

This is true. I've done it before. I noticed that when you're getting ready to power it off it defaluts to "turn off console, yes" and that's it

Ditto!
When our Samsuck BDP 1200 won't play a movie, we switch to the PS3 and use the PS3 remote ... works great!

I can turn off my ps3 blind with the tv off using the ps3 button on the sixaxis or the blutooth remote. Just hold the PS button for a few secs then hit the middle button 2 times. It should blink and then turn off.

btw the blutooth remote also has an eject button which can be quite handy

I love the remote as well!
I think they should add an option in the next firmware to make it so only the PS button turns on the console.

Seems that my controller is alive again. I'm still getting the remote though.

The PS button is the universal button to turn on/off the PS3 or the controller, as well as assigning the Bluetooth ports. Doing so would screw up something that works so well.

As far as I can tell, pressing any button other than the PS button on the remote will turn on the PS3. Turning it off is via the PS button.
