Image had said they were preparing the original series for an eventual Blu-ray release. I'm guessing this is it. The '80s series was probably shot on video, so I don't think it would be a good candidate (and I seriously doubt anyone is that interested in the '80s revival, anyways).
Warner owns the rights to the 2000's UPN version. |

You got that right! Check out The Third Man, or Casablanca, or A Christmas Carol, or It's A Wonderful Life, or for something modern, the first few minutes (the B & W portion) of Van Helsing. When it's shot and transferred well, black and white can be incredibly sharp and detailed looking. Something about the contrast and shadow and really make the picture pop. |

One of the keys here is that the show was shot on film. Since film has a much higher resolution than we can currently display on our home displays, it can be scanned and down-resed to 1080p.

I will upgrade my DVD sets for two reasons alone.
1. Durability and 2. With the Defenitive DVD Sets you cant "play all" on the disc. Its one episode at a time. I wish they would put the actual early Pilot in the set. The one Serling did in 57 or 58 about Pearl Harbor. Last edited by Flyfisherman; 04-28-2010 at 09:11 PM. |

Very cool! This is my all-time favorite TV show, so I can't wait to see it on Blu!
However..... I really hope there will be some sort of discount program for those of us that own all five seasons on DVD. I would absolutely LOVE to upgrade my DVD set to Blu, but I can't imagine being able to do it practically if I'm forced to sell my DVD set (Amazon, eBay, local DVD shop, etc.) and pay the expected $150-200 for all five seasons on Blu. Anyone heard any word on such a discount program? I'm afraid that nothing like this will happen since we're talking about Image Entertainment who is reportedly hurting for money..... Except for a half dozen epsiodes in the 2nd season whch were shot on videotape to bring down production costs and transferred to 16mm film for broadcast--picky, I know.
![]() I wonder what kind of audio treatment the show will get for BD release? Although it's my all-time favorite TV show I don't know if I spend enough time re-watching my DVD collection of the show to merit immediate upgrade. I dunno though...Walking Distance, Mr. Denton On Doomsday, Time Enough At Last, Perchance to Dream, The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street, A Passage For Trumpet--there are some real gems in the first season, and at that price the cost is less than $2/episode. |
