USA Twilight zone the series on Blu-ray

Amazon today only deal is selling the twilight zone complete definitive edition for 105.99. I bought the dvd set that came out one at a time back in the day for 15 a pop. each disc then had only 4 episodes on it, and they were not released in season order. That would be close to 50 disc. So I was wondering , instead of buyng this great deal to simplify my life, will they ever just use the blu-ray format to consolidate all twilight zone 5 seasons on to , i don't know, just a few blu-ray disc. Anybody know if that is even in the works.

It may happen one day, but it's certainly not something that's been announced or really hinted at.

Haven't heard if there are any plans for a Blu-ray release anywhere in the near future. But even when it is released, there isn't enough space on a Blu-ray Disc to fit 5 seasons of shows, in hi-definition, on just a few discs. There would most likely be fewer discs per season though.

Yeah, people really need to use question marks in their thread titles when posting stuff like this.

Thumbs up Probably 2 50gb disc will do it, maybe 3 at most, here is the math

If season one that has 36 episodes on 6 dvd. each dvd has 4.7gb, that would be 28.2gb. Now for a 50GB blu-ray, squeeze 2 seasons on it. See the beauty in this. They could probably sqeeze it all into max 3 disc. INstead of 28 disc, or my orignal 50, I'll take it.

Oh boy, where to begin?

Your math assumes they will not be doing hi-def transfers, making a blu-ray release pointless other than to save shelf space. You do realize that hi-def transfers take up considerably more space than their standard def counterparts, right?

It also assumes they are using single layer DVDs, which is probably not the case.

It further assumes that you can "squeeze" nearly 60 GB of data on a 50 GB disc. Yeah, right, not without terribly reducing the bitrates of each episode and crippling the quality!

If they are to release a blu-ray, we want 1080p transfers from the original film elements (assuming they still exist).

75 hours worth of material is not gonna fit on 3 discs. Even if it was all standard def you're looking at 5, 50 GB discs, easy.

But 75 hours of hi-def material? Forget about it. You're probably still looking at a 20 disc set.

Angry i know, i know

I'm just talking about DVD quality on bluray for convience. Not all seasons are the same length, so I still say 3 disc max. also they are single sided.

That much standard def, DVD-quality material will not fit on 3 discs. You would not want to watch it, even if it did. It would be ridiculously compressed and artifact-ridden.

Also if you notice, I said single layered, not single sided. There is a big difference. Dual-layered DVDs can hold up to 8.5 GB per disc. With that many episodes per DVD, one would assume that those DVDs are not single layered.

You did not factor this into your math.

And, just more than a year since this was posted, this is actually a reality tomorrow morning. In, by the accounts of the reviews so far, a gorgeous edition with piles of awesome supplemental material.

Woo-frickin-hoo!

Never seen Twilight Zone before so I decided to check out the full episode of "The Obsolete Man" and it was eerily creepy because it's true.

Now, I don't know if I'll ever watch the entire series, but Mr. Serling was one hell of a classy gentleman.
