Rented BDs - take care of your stuff, c'mon!

so the last THREE blu's i rented all skipped and one looked so bad i wouldnt even put it in my player, i know most people use rented dvd's as coasters after they have watched them (the same people who flip out on clerks for their movie skipping) but i assumed this would be different on blu, at least until widespread adoption. plus i have dropped blus, mishandled slightly (thanks alcohol), etc... and mine are still fine, so what are these people doing to their discs, i just wish people had more respect for other peoples stuff

It is funny you mention this. I rented a movie from BB this weekend and it was unwatchable. It looks like someone rubbed it with sandpaper. I wonder what these people do witht he disc after they watch them. Personally I don't think it is too hard to put it back in the case or sleeve after you watch it.

Also I though that Blu-rays had a special coating that would prevent or at least limit the amount of damage to it.

amen to that i let some people borrow some of my dvds in the past and also video games and when they returned them they looked like they have been through hell and back so when they give it back to me ill be like hell no i gave you a nice looking copy and you give me this with 30 scratches on them. (true story). my street fighter game for the psp is all scratched up that when i put it in my psp it makes so much noise its like unbearable to listen to

i know it sounds mean but thats why i refuse to lend my dvds or when i had games lend them to people.

when it comes to friends i am a suck up but now i know which ones do take good care of my stuff so now i only let the ones i trust borrow them. they do return them except some of them dont take good care of my things and some do

It may seem stupid but I am really anal about lending people my cd's or movies. I've similar problems with people borrowing things and getting them back with a few nicks here and there. It makes me look like a grinch, but I work hard for what I have and I won't let some disrespecting a-hole ruin my property. Most of the movies I have rented from Blockbuster look like people use them as frisbees or something. I haven't had any problems with their Blu's though, mainly it's been dvd's.

most people that i've encountered in life are pretty much stupid, so it comes as no suprise that a rental service would have unwatchable movies.

i wish people would take care of stuff better too, have a little respect for other's properties ya know. The only people that allow to borrow from my collection are my neices and nephews and they took really good care of my stuff.

I think you answered your own question. It's a weekend hobby for some people - rent a disc, watch it, then get the sandpaper out and see how badly they can scratch it before they return it. They aim to spend at least as long sanding it as they did watching it.

Only joking, every Blu-ray disc I've ever rented has looked perfect and played with no problems.

I would request a replacement disc and mark this one as "unplayable" to netflix. I always look at the ones I get in the mail to make sure they won't damage my PS3. So far, i've gotten lucky and only gotten good ones.

Funny story. My nephews were over and they have a friend that lives in my neighborhood. He brought over a playstation 2 game that they wanted to play. One of my nephews came to me and asked if I could clean the disc for them. I looked at it and the disc had been busted into three pieces and someone had glued it back together. The kid said his dad had done if for him. I didn't want to tell him his dad was an idiot, but I did tell them that it wouldn't work. I can't believe they tried to glue it back together, thinking it would work again.

Me, I am always very careful with my discs.

There is a video on youtube of a guy intentionally scrubbing a BD with steel wool and it still played. Plus some other stuff. With normal handling BD should last a lifetime. However, I don't consider intentional abuse of a disc as normal handling.

No one wants to replace a disc they borrowed so everyone will say the disc had a problem to begin with. It does nothing but drive a rift between friends so I'm avoiding that margin for error altogether."

It doesn't matter where I rent from or what movie, if I'm not the very first person to rent it, it is scratched, covered in fingerprints, etc.

Whenever I trade in my used DVDs, the clerk always makes a comment like, "Did you ever watch these movies? They're so clean."

I just don't know what's so difficult about taking a disc out of the case and putting it in the player without damaging it.

And I don't loan movies either.

That's the same reason I don't lend my stuff....but my friends accuse me of being untrustful. How about yours?

I'm okay with them coming over and playing it over at my house....but I really don't want to have to blame them for something even if they didn't mean to do it. I don't like the feeling but I guess it's a problem I have and I can't get rid of it. They don't understand but they are still my friends...and I am grateful for that.

This is a personal pet peeve for me. I refuse to loan anyone a disk ever again. Every time I had before, they came back scratched. All the ones I have never loaned, look new. I swear that people are retarded sometimes. Is it really so hard to grasp a disk by the edges and put it back in its case after use? I have even gone so far as to give these very specific instructions to people, have them agree to do so as a condition for me loaning them, and still have them come back scratched. Like I won't notice? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, some days I hate people.
