hey guys, I want to update my pc to be able to handle full 1080p Blu-ray viewing. up above are all the components I am thinking of getting for my PC. I have an e machines running a Celeron(R) CPU 2.93 GHZ with 1015 MB of ram and running 32 bit Vista ultimate. If I buy all that stuff above, do you think I can be watching 1080p Blu-ray in my room? thanks.

by the way, my motherboard will only accept PCI video cards ( and as you know there are no PCI cards thta are 512 mb), so this was the best way to go.

You need to check to see if your monitor and video card is HDCP compliant. Your video card may be on the sketchy side but the monitor may fly. As for the Celeron...ditch it. You may need more oomph like a dual core or a quad core chip. You will also really need to also update your MoBo to accept PCIe cards because you will need the bandwidth and maybe another Gb of RAM

About a year and a half ago, I bought a Dell 24" Ultrasharp monitor. This thing is the deal but it is not HDCP compliant.. Even though it is hooked up via the digital DVI, Vista will not pass through 1080p or any picture with some titles.

Now I have heard the AnyDVD will bypass HDCP protection but I am not sure of this yet.

Try this link...

It should be able to help you determine if your PC can do the job. That is how I found out about my monitor. Now if I can get Dell to issue a firmware update for my monitor...bastards.

the journey to getting hd is only half the fun

yeah, so I ran the program and it gave me about 5 reds:
1. CPU Harware acceleration); No hardware Decoder detected
2. CPU (my info listed); obviously need a better one
3. Graphics Card; standard VGA grahics adapter (obviously I need a card which can support 1920x1200, and mine only supports like 1280x900 i think)
4. Blu-ray Disc drive; not found (duh
5. software player; not found (duh

So I'm guessing if I get a better processor ( from the one of compatible ones listed on the site) and a good graphics card (like the one I mentioned) I should be ok? Only problem is that this is getting kinda messy, is there a way to find out if your motherboard is compatable with certain CPU's? thanks, and I really aprreciate your help at 3 in the morn!

Basically you need at least a dual core processor at 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM (XP) or 2 GB RAM (Vista), plus a recent HDCP compatible GPU with hardware HD video support that will offload VC-1 and AVC decoding from the processor. These include nVidia 8500 and 8600, and ATI 2400 & 2600. You obviously need a Blu-ray drive and a software decoder, there are two or three solutions, which you may have to pay for.

The best place to get this information is from jadedRaverLA, who is an invaluable mine of information HD and PCs:

Sorry son, but this won't cut it. Your processor is too slow, running Vista? I would go to at least 2gb of ram and your graphics card - you need an 8 series Nvidia or at least a Radeon 2600. Good choices on the BD drive (its come down 30.00 since I've bought it) and the monitor. You are in the right direct with those - the weak area is your PC itself. Get rid of the Emachine - (and if you are doing this yourself and feel brave enough to do it) build your own rig with a E6400 series or above Core2Duo (Quad would even be better) or an AMD Dual core x5600 or above (Phenom black addition if possible). You will need a new Motherboard also.

AnyDVD HD bypasses HDCP and AACS. I'm sure.
