Just though I would share this bit of info I stumbled on...
Yeah, it really sucks for us 40gb people to only have 2 usb ports for a game that requires at least 3. The only real solution is an unsightly self-powered usb hub, or so they would have you believe. You see, transfer rate is the main advantage of usb 2.0, but those rock band instruments don't require very much bandwidth at all. More of a concern is being able to source enough current to power the things. Well, it seems that using a bus-powered usb 1.1 hub works beautifully. Instrument operation is unaffected and the hub can power all 3 bundled instruments from one port. So, if you have rock band and a 40gb ps3, and you are sick of having to plug your usb port in to an outlet when you use all 3 instruments, try giving a usb 1.1 hub a shot. It's also pretty convenient to only have to plug in one item when you want to play (I keep the instruments plugged into the hub and just plug it in when I play). Not sure if this will be the case for all 1.1 hubs (and some 2.0 bus-powered hubs might work, but they didn't for me) but I hope this helps. |

Im really not up to par on a lot of the technology lingo and some of what you said I don't fully understand.
Either way, I am as well a 40gig PS3 owner with Rock Band. To fix the USB port problem I simply went to the local eletronic store and bought a USB HUB. It holds 4 USB ports and only needs to plug into 1. So far it has worked fine for me, although whenever i want to play Rock Band I have to unplug the port and than plug it back in. That 4th port is eagerly awating the arrival of the stand alone guitars that are supposed to arrive in April, woot! Sorry if some of this post was noobish. ![]() |

![]() The thing is that there are different versions of usb, and I know myself and some others had some trouble using the usb 2.0 hubs that only plug into the usb on the ps3 (meaning they draw power from the ps3 usb port and don't have an ac outlet plug). My point was that usb hubs of previous versions (mine being 1.1) that only plug into the ps3 (bus-powered) seem to work. Nice, grats on the mma record by the way... I'm still waiting to find the time to take some amateur fights myself, but I think I might stick with muay thai to start... it's just so tough with work, especially since I need to find the time to cut down all the way to about 195... ugh... I normally roll at 215-220. |
