Quote:
Riding high on their successful adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe, Roger Corman and American International Pictures took on that other titan of literary terror, H.P Lovecraft, in The Dunwich Horror!

Dean Stockwell stars as Wilbur Whateley, a mysterious young man who travels from the small town of Dunwich to the library of the Miskatonic University which holds one of the only copies of the Necronomicon, a legendary book of occult lore that Wilbur hopes to borrow. Graduate student Nancy Wagner (Sandra Dee) falls under his malign influence and travels with him back to his home where Wilbur has plans to use her in a ritual to raise ‘The Old Ones’, cosmic beings from another dimension. But who, or what, is in the locked room at the top of the stairs? And what will happen if they get out?

Directed by Daniel Haller, genius art director of numerous Corman classics, this was also the first screenwriting credit for Curtis Hanson, who would later direct the multi awardwinning L.A. Confidential. Newly restored by Arrow Films from the original 35mm camera negative, The Dunwich Horror is among the most successful Lovecraft adaptations ever committed to film, and it has never looked better.

Glad to see a supplement about Les Baxter’s brilliant score. I might hold off to see if a US label is going to release this. Kino Lorber seems like the safest bet, if so.

This is one movie where they should have added a bonus CD with the soundtrack.

That art is WAY less exciting than the original poster:

I've never seen this, but that poster sure was burned into my brain as a little kid (along with Chamber of Horrors!) from some old copy of Halliwell's Film Companion my parents had lying around.

I’d suspect it’s on the reverse inner art. I’d hope so anyway.

That poster was burned into my brain as a high school senior. I was a film reviewer for the school paper, and I used to hang out near the local
Seattle exchange office of American International Pictures in late 1970 through June of 1971. That DUNWICH poster was a favorite of mine.

Reynold Brown did the original poster art. Perhaps that art wasn't available to Arrow?

The description does say the reverse cover will have original poster art, so I imagine it'll be the one posted above.

Big fan of this one. I have the Shout double feature with Murders in the Rue Morgue, but this is a must-buy for me.

I said I was probably okay without pre-ordering or day one purchasing any Arrow titles from January, but I guess I missed this one. This seems pretty intriguing! Might have to pull the trigger on a pre-order!

Movie posters are promotional advertisements. Just like trailers, tv commercials, print ads. Although they can be copyrighted, it's not enforceable. Courts have ruled that the more people who spread it around actually benefits the copyright holder. It's free advertisement for the product.
You can purchase a reproduction of the original poster from dozens of companies.
There may be some cases where an artist personally copyrights their art.

The crazy thing about boutique labels creating new art.
1. They have to get permission, and possibly pay to use an actor's likeness.
2. They have to pay the artist to create the art.
3. They could just slap the original poster on the cover with no permission or costs.

I agree. I love this movie and have it on the old Shout double feature also. I would buy a 4K instantly but see no reason to repeat a Blu-ray purchase.
