Default Things in movies that bother you

I dont want to turn this into a hate on people thread....

The one thing in movies that pisses me off is when they do a movie with germans or French in it and they speak ENGLISH!!!

It completely ruins a movie for me and I ahve to turn it off...

I just was curious what are other peoples pet peeves with movies that make them unwatchable.

Do you mean like dubbing over the natural language of the film in English or do you just have a problem with the way Germans and Frenchies speak English?

I usually don't watch movies if I feel there is something in it that would make me uncomfortable such as Sean Penn.

Dubbing is one instance of it but when Somebody in a movie speaks perfect english, like if its a WWII movie and the Germans speak english just as good as the Americans (just an example) And its funny to see so many people dislike Sean Penn...hmm

So you don't think it's possible that some Germans could speak fluent English during WWII? If Sean Penn would stop trying to shove his political opinions down everyone's throat and stop fraternizing with commies like Castro and Chavez most people wouldn't have a problem with him. IMO Penn needs to shut up and do his job which is entertaining people and keep his politics out of the media and to himself.

I agree that Penn shouldnt share his opinions on politics like he does, but I still respect him as an actor and will watch his movies, just shut off the tv during his oscar speach...

And the WWII thing was an example but I see movies all the time where they go to foreign countries and everyone not just a few people, but EVERYONE speaks fluent American english

Why shouldn't he be able to express his opinions? So he's only allowed to act and that's it. What do you do for a living? Should you be allowed to come on this site and express your opinions or should you be limited to only that one thing that you do for money? I bet if you agreed with his opinions you wouldn't be so hellbent on stifling his comments.

The Oscar acceptance speach is a time to thank people that helped you, NOT to portray your opinion on gay marriage! and that is just 1 example...and I do agree with some not all of his comments, There is a time and a place for everything and where Penn decides to share his opinions is usually the wrong time and place

That being said, as difficult as it may be, I think ppl should try the best they can to separate an actor's personal and professional lives. I have no problem with Penn supporting his beliefs. All I care about is that he is a great actor. Same with Tom Cruise, but on the good actor level. Same with Mel Gibson, on the director scale (despite how bad his statements were.)

Polanski, however, is a different matter.

He won the award for playing an openly gay mayor. I don't think it's too out of place that he had something to say about gay marriage. I think it's kinda sad that we're getting to a point where people are criticized for speaking their mind publicly. That being said, he is a bit preachy.

This just requires suspension of disbelief. In-story, the characters are NOT speaking English. They only speak English to ease understanding and performance. Tom Cruise is going to deliver a line in English that he understands a lot better than he would in German.

What bugs me is when they speak English and are supposed to be speaking another language, but on top of that, they speak English with a foreign accent. Like if they're supposed to be speaking Russian and instead they speak English to ease understanding and performance, but tack on a Russian accent to their English performance. That's just so completely wrong. It gives the impression that the characters are instead speaking English in-story, which begs the question of why Russian natives would be conversing in accented English when they'd be better capable of talking in Russian.

The interesting thing is that often foreign languages have dialects and accents just the same as English. As I understand it, this often plays a part in the sort of voice a character in an anime gets when its dubbed. They're analogous accents. Hearing a person speaking American English with a southern accent might be similar to a Japanese person hearing a person speaking Okinawan Japanese.

So, let me ask you: Do you like Amadeus, Gladiator, Braveheart, or Troy? Because they sure as hell weren't speaking English in the time periods depicted in those movies.

Exactly. Somehow the British accent makes it seem more authentic

I agree with the language thing also. 'The Reader' takes place in another country (I forget where) yet everyone speaks English. I mean obviously they aren't gonna make a movie intended for the US and speak another language, but I just find it weird. One other thing I notice, which may seem weird to other people but it annoys me... when people eat Chinese food right from the container. I've never actually seen anyone do that, and it's done so much.

aaaahhhaaha! My fiancee and I always laugh at that too. It's like, when you get Chinese food, you get one container with rice and some other containers with food. Who eats the rice right from the box, instead of putting it on a plate with the other food to go with it??

I was flabbergasted when someone told me they weren't really riding horses in Holy Grail

One of my pet peeves about movies is blatantly obvious continuity errors (i.e. When Brad Pitt is eating, I think, shrimp in Ocean's 11).

Just the other day I picked up Inglorious Bastards at Target and as the cashier was ringing me up the conversation went like this.

Cashier:
Is this the new Quentin Tarantino film?

Me:
Yeah and it's great.

Cashier:
I'll never watch it because I hate Brad Pitt.

Me:
But the movie is awesome.

Cashier:
Yeah but I hate Brad Pitt. The only movie I liked him in was SE7EN but that's because I think Morgan Freeman is an amazing actor.

Me:
Yeah but IB is a great movie.

Cashier:
I can't watch it, I hate Brad Pitt.
