Paramount: "We still feel that HD-DVD is what consumers want." ...lol

Sounds like what Universal has been saying for a year.

Not surprising, they had it done already on HD-DVD.....it's not like they are going to throw the inventory away when some people would be willing to buy it.

Assuming of course retailers bring it into their store.....

Well that's just it. I would think their retail space by that time will be limited.

Toshiba offered them a crapload of money to release movies on HD DVD. You think they're going to stop releasing them and lose the big bucks?

Here is a link to the Amazon.com UK pre-orer page. It has listed some interesting titles. One thing to note is the Paramount titles have a June release date. I know this hasn't anything to do with the US, but is it safe for me to assume that since paramount has dates for it's europe titles it is certainly expecting blu releases.

Not Previously released on blu, nor an Hd Dvd title
1. Drillbit Taylor- Paramount (july 21 08)
2. Zoolander- Paramount (july 21 08)
3. Cloverfield- Paramount (june 9 08)
4. Sweeny Todd- Dreamworks

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount went Neutral instead of Blu-Ray exclusive.

They are still in love with their "red DUD toy":

"Are you sure we have to go Blu-Ray? But I love my DUD sooo much.... Are you sure?"

Somebody needs to "fix the glitch" :

P.S. I thought they were told that, if they were late again, they would be summarily dismissed

Are you sure about that? If they signed a deal and keep up their end of the bargain, I'd think Toshiba would have to keep up their end of the contract, or pay them coin to break it.

It most likely is due to the fact that they've already produced it. I'm sure the reds will buy enough copies to make it worth pressing, and be grateful for something new to watch.

At the rate things are going there won't be much retail space for this movie. I do believe that they had already pressed the movie and therefore there is no point in not attempting to sell. However, this movie will be on Blu soon enough. Considering that all contracts have been released and being the only studio to release on HD DVD won't be any good anyway. Foolish, foolish Paramount.

They were released from their contract the moment Toshiba quit.

This means they won't lose the big bucks. Honestly I think they are trying to figure a way to publicly not look like idoits when they come back to Blu-ray and that's why they have been silent for the past 24 hrs.

Maybe Paramount is too busy cleaning it's house of red ants to announce anything for Blu-ray. After the house cleaning maybe they come with good news.

Well not sure of course... let's see if Universal keeps making hd dvd's as well over the next few months... once they make another announcment.

Why would Paramount release Toshiba from the contract, when it's Toshiba paying them?

And they look like bigger idiots by not releasing any Blu-ray. Not to mention they're losing a lot of money. If they aren't waiting for Toshiba to buy them out of their contract (speculation), I have no idea why they're being so stupid.
