Default Sony Became the World’s Largest LCD TV Vendor

Two articles in Bloomberg and Korea Times report that:
  1. Sony has become the world’s number one LCD TV vendor.
  2. Sony has signed an agreement to order LCD television panels from Sharp, Japan’s largest LCD maker.
  3. Samsung, the world’s largest LCD panel maker and Sony’s largest supplier, is concerned about the shift in Sony’s policy.

Bloomberg.com: Sharp Shares Rise on Report Sony May Order LCD Panels
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...SH0&refer=asia

“Sharp Corp., Japan's biggest maker of liquid-crystal displays, rose the most in more than a week in Tokyo trading after the Nikkei newspaper reported the company is poised to win LCD television panel orders from Sony Corp.

Samsung, the world's largest LCD maker, is Sony's main supplier. Tokyo-based Sony, the maker of Bravia TVs, overtook Samsung as the world's largest LCD TV vendor during the fourth quarter, according to estimates this month from market researcher DisplaySearch.”

The Korea Times: Sony’s Policy Shift Poses Threat to Samsung
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...123_19554.html

“Despite strong denial by Samsung Electronics over its strategic tie-up with Sony in the liquid crystal display (LCD) business, the South Korean electronics giant is facing a crisis under an aggressive attack from Japanese rivals.”
