Default quality of dvd?

ok i knew the quality of blu could vary because of so much more being involved, didnt know this applied to dvd as well.

i was watching "news radio" upconverted and it looks horrible, bad enough i thought my blu or tv was having a problem, all kinds of weird little vibration lines when objects move, along with a slew of other horrible stuff.

i know i am getting spoiled with blu but i have never seen upconvert dvd look this bad.

I don't watch upconverted movies on my PS3 because I find upconversion creates a lot of artifacting.

Huh? I haven't seen this as an issue with the PS3.

Same here. Seems to work fine for me.

While I don't think I've seen that symptom yet, I have seen some DVDs that didn't upscale very well. Not sure why that is. Overall though, most of the DVDs I've watched have upscaled pretty well (looking fairly close to HD), especially the newer titles.

Scarface and the Indiana Jones Trilogy look amazing upconverted. Well amazing given the fact it's DVD and given their age.

Thanks!!! I watched Indy, and the wife and I both said "wow this looks great!" and I've been watching other movies, and it's hit or miss..... I'm gonna plan on watching scarface tonight then......

I was hoping for more "wow" from Fear and Loathing and The Big Lebowski upconverted, but it wasn't there...... I guess I'll hang onto my HD DVDs a little longer!

I'm not sure if every Scarface DVD is as good, but I have the most recent Platinum Edition release.

The most amazing upscaled DVD I have watched on my Panasonic BD-30K is the LOTR trilogy. I have watched actual BD releases that don't look at as good as these movies.

Which version do you have?

Also, Gladiator looks excellent as well.

I couldn't get the Criterion Collection version of Armageddon to upconvert it was just a rectangle in the center of my screen. Had to chg aspect ratio on my Samsung to get it slightly larger.
