I prefer the progressive image obtained from 720p. Turned off 1080i on my PS3 and haven't looked back.

It's a massive debatable issue to be sure but basically, 720p should look a bit better than 1080i. When they first did the comparisons in magazines, most preferred the 720p, some couldn't tell the difference but at that point, no one preferred 1080i over 720p. People keep thinking the lower the number, the lower the rez. What it all comes down to, keeping processing in new panels in mind, is what looks best to you on your specific panel because there are a ton of people here, who swear their 1080i looks miles better than if they try 720p on the same panel. Maybe it's different from Plasma to LCD. That wouldn't surprise me at all.

Well said. Find the best sound and picture that fits you best. Experiment and that will be the best format for you

720p for tv and movies, 1080i for gaming.

In simple terms. Use p for anything with a lot of movement (Basketball, NASCAR, Action Movies). Use i for anything that's mostly a still picture (Discovery Sunrise, most Drama Movies, and Half-Baked). To test this theory, watch a BaseBall Game in "i". It will be beautiful until you someone gets a hit and then it falls apart. With "p" it will have more control to the picture.
