Default 1080i or 720P?

Im sure this question has been asked before but i couldnt find a good enough answer in the search i did.I have a PIONEER 436SXE (UK MODEL)that does 1080p but i can only get my PANASONIC BD10A (NORTH AMERICAN MODEL) to output 1080i.The 1080p is greyed out.Would i be better having it output 720p instead of 1080i

Also my tv says that it is 1125i when i input 1080i from the player and 750p when i output 720p from the player

Thanks for any help

Jaffa

Firstly, I would investigate why the 1080p option is greyed out on the BDP and whether a Firmware upgrade would solve this.

Although the Pioneer excepts 1080p input, it's native resolution does not allow it to display 1080 lines - therefore the display scales the image down. I think, generally speaking, the better PQ is achieved when less processing/ scaling is carried out (ie 720p). That said, I prefer the 1080i option with my display.

As for the 1125i/ 750p, this is due to extra lines of data that is contained on the disc and is transmitted to the display along with the picture. This is quite normal.
