Paramount stops HD DVD production
By Thomas K. Arnold

Feb 29, 2008
A week after announcing it would return to Blu-ray Disc now that Toshiba has given up on its failed HD DVD technology, Paramount Home Entertainment says it is ending production of HD DVD discs.

The studio's final two HD DVD releases will be "Things We Lost in the Fire" and "Into the Wild," both coming March 4.

Paramount is expected to start rolling out Blu-ray Discs in the summer. Until then, titles will be released in standard DVD only.

A statement at last. So it will be the summer before we see anything. I wonder if they will at least announce some titles and release dates?

Titles to be released in the summer? What the hell happened to all those BD movies that were ready for release but never made it out? Could there really be no discs in a Paramount warehouse somewhere?

I'm thinking its just general talk for "we're not allowed to make any surprise announcements until the final HD's hit, so we'll just give a general "in summer" timeframe right now."
