wow. that's just... wow.

seriously, to think that any employee with an ounce of sense would think that wiping down the entire console would be a good idea...

Owned!

Seriously, thats rough. If Microsoft doesn't fix it, (which I doubt they will) that maybe the people that signed it along the way and their companies could do something for him.

That sucks. I'd be pissed if that happened to me. The fact that the signatures were erased makes it even worse. Microsoft owes some serious explaining to do.

Pretty stupid of them to do that.

I do have to question the sanity of someone who is so emotionally involved with a gaming console, but regardless, it is a pretty crappy thing to do.

Damn.

I'm in my 30s and that story made me want to cry.

What dumb asses at Msoft.

Honestly though, it could happen to any company that's large, especially one that outsources.

True. I highly doubt MS "employees" service those machines. They probably outsource it to a domestic repair company, like everyone else does.

That said, I'd sue if it were me. You might not win at trial, but you might get a decent settlement.

The only thing missing from this story is if we were told Nathaniel was a Make-a-Wish kid or something. Seriously, it's heartbreaking, and only fuels the anti-MS sentiment so rampant on these boards, but if I were in his shoes, knowing what MIGHT happen, I would've just bought a new 360 and replaced the guts myself. It's no different than if you have a highly-customized car... your additions are not covered by warranty.

Caveat emptor.

It's outsourced to another company, and this was some moron of an employee

Why they would ever do that is beyond me

No, but they are covered if you have the proper insurance. Trust me

Because the employee's job is probably "clean each xbox within 5 minutes or else you're fired". Handles so many consoles on a daily basis there's no time to analyze any potential emotional attachment someone may or may not have with the console.

This kid is just getting an early life lesson that sometimes shit happens. Signatures are fine, but it's not exactly the end of the world if they're lost.

Occam's razor. What's more likely? An employee took special interest in this console and devoted a lot of time and effort to maliciously screw him over? Or cleaning consoles with strong cleaner is standard procedure? Seriously, do the math: 17m Xbox 360's sold, estimated 30% failure rate, ~2.3 years since launch - over 6,000 xboxes are repaired each day.

136 comments just today on his blog? Who is this guy, quite popular yes?
i've been to dozens of blogs and this one blows away celebrities for attention.

If this guy makes a ruckus at the places he would say, Microsoft will get a bad rap. I hope that he gets his vengeance, although I dislike xbox, I don't think that guy should of gotten so screwed over.

Sorry, I call BS.

1 - If it's that sentimental - you don't send it in. You buy another.

2 - You don't do something sentimental to something that is WELL KNOWN to be a piece of junk and will most likely break down.

3 - NOBODY on earth would take the time to wipe that machine clean. The 360 plastic is textured. There would be BIG evidence of a wipe down. The chemicals needed to clean that machine to remove the ink, would have permanently damaged the plastic or discolored it. There would even be "rub strokes" on it.

It does not add up. Sorry - I don't feel sorry for this person. I also don't believe it.

Also, look at the first 2 pics and then the last one showing the "ink smudge". First pics show NO INK in that area. Hmm.
