Default Best Buy just screwed me over -_-

On Friday, I was at BB, and they had the Samsung, but the manager told me they cannot sell it to me until today, and apologized. So I had no problem with it. I get there today around 9:35, store opens at 10. I wait there, and finally, they open the doors, I go to the back looking for the player, and the guy goes to the computer, locates it, but then another guy comes up and says it cannot be sold until next Sunday because they have to meet the requirements of what is going to be in next week's ad. Then one of the managers asks if we found it, I tell him yeah and what I was told, so he talks to the guy, and comes back to me saying, "Yeah, sorry about that. We cannot sell it until next Sunday, so make sure to get here early enough since they'll probably be gone in 5 minutes."

WHAT THE F***!!!!!

I deserved to have been sold it today as I was promised on Friday!! -_-

No, you don't.

Whoever made you that promise was a fool.

As it is, I'm wondering what kind of consequences there will be against the stores that broke street date on the Samsung by a good 10 days...

The Store Manager told me he couldn't sell it until today because the date on their computer was 6/18. TODAY IS 6/18. Now the guy that was there today said it can be sold anytime now, but they might only have enough for the minimum for next week's ad. That is total bs.

If I get a job there, I'm going to make sure I get all of the details on items when telling customers info they want to know about items that haven't come out yet. Oh, and what is the difference between the player and movies? They already broke the street date for the new DC animation DVDs, what difference does it make if they do it to the player? Besides, why the hell are other BB already selling the product to people if they have to wait until the ad next week?

Case in point, the guy there today was a total dick. I wish the store manager was working today so I could talk to him about it (but I do have an interview with him tomorrow, so I'll do it after the interview).

I don't care what the product is or how much it costs: Breaking street dates is wrong.
^^
Making promises off of that mistake is also wrong and stupid.

Whoever broke street now has to clean up the mess and situations like Kain's are par for the course.

It sucks, but that's life.

At least no money was lost.

7 days from today it will be a completely moot point.

Sorry you had to be bothered.

It's never fun to expect something and then have it yanked from you.

Well if I were you I'd pick up the player from Circuit City next Sunday and get the four free movies it comes with. Screw Worst Buy. They've been dicking me around all week on the phone. I was repeatedly told they couldn't sell them till today (not 6/25!). I called all of the local stores when they opened this morning to verify that they had stock before I went there. Some of them said they don't have any, others said they only have a display unit. WTF? I fully understand the reasoning behind street dates but the continued misinformation coming from Worst Buy's employees is beyond a disservice to their customers. So as it stands now I'll be heading over to Circuit City next week. I've had enough of the Worst Buy bullshit and have no plans to shop there again.

One mistake leads to other mistakes.

God knows I'm not surprised that we'd see yet another Best Buy cluster*$%^.

I thought this was some good advice over at AVS:

Quote:
Save your money, don't buy the Samsung at all. Wait until the machines and software can both provide everything the format has to offer.

And then, when it is time, go buy from somebody other than Best Buy (unless you get some kind of employee discout).

This is good advice.

To be fair, BB corporate probably sent their managers an email Thursday night saying to hold on to X amount of Samsung players for Sunday. So when he told you Friday, he had every intention of selling it to you on Friday.

I was told I could buy one this morning as late as Saturday evening so I doubt that's the case.

Wait, Circuit City gives you 4 free movies? What happens when you buy the Sony player in August, do you still get the 4 free movies?

The 4 free movies is for the Samsung player. We don't yet know if they will do a promotion for the Sony player.

I went to a BB today and sat there for about 10 minutes playing with the Samsung. I was struggling - there it was in front of me on a shelf, free to be played with -remote and all. There, on the shelf below it was a box... a heavy box... with a $1,000 price tag... with the words Samsung and Blu-ray on it.

I refuse to buy anything but a PS3... but this is all driving me nuts. I actually have $1K in cash sitting at home reserved for my PS3, some games and some movies. But... I must wait.

The display for this one was a boring end-cap setup with no signs and NO movies. They were playing XXX which didn't look that spectactular on a Samsung LCD (?!??!!!) which may have been 32" or so.

Yeah, I think if these movies looked as good as the HD-DVD releases, I would be a lot more tempted. Sony needs dual layer or advanced codecs ASAP.

Eh, a PS3 ain't worth it. $500-600 for a video game system is lame.

Anyway, I'm still pissed, but not as much as before. Hopefully the one I preordered at Ultimate Electronics will come in before Sunday. Oh, and their street date on their computers was 6/14, but in stock date was 6/18, so I doubt they are breaking street dates. Besides, if that were the case, how are other people already getting theirs?

It sounds like even as a component in a video game system, the PS3 will probably still give you better image quality than the Samsung.

Don't you think your making much a do about nothing? I understand you want Blu-Ray, but why get so frustrated over paying full pop for the first model released. IMO the sony (From what i saw in person) was of better build quality and is the same price. But hey, do what you do. Just about every consumer electronics launch has been bobbled lately, (And it aint just Big Blue) So don't feel like you got singled out. The manufacturers give little to no details leading up to the launch. Then a few days before launch the units show up in the store, nobody suspects anything different and assumptions are made. then a memo is sent out days before saying hold product for ad date X/XX/06. I know it's confusing and frustrating but you'll get yours...and when you do atleast you'll have content available with it.

BTW, the average consumer doesn't know or care about the june 25th release date nor do they even understand what "Blu-Ray" is. So your chances of scooping this on launch is pretty solid.

It is a video game system, NOT a BR player. At least in my eyes. I use my video game systems for games and my video players for videos.

What you do is clearly your choice. Because you CHOOSE not to use it as a player doesn't mean it isn't a player. Just like many people chose not to use their PS2 as a player. But, many of my friends who were just buying homes and didn't have a lot of extra cash used their PS2 for a couple of years as a DVD player - without any real complaints.

Don't confuse you making a choice in how you want to utilize a device as being the reality of that device. If the PS3 is to expensive for you... why not pass the Blu-ray player up and just use the PS3? I hear it does both.

Seriously - I get that people have enough money to buy both a first generation player ($1K) and a PS3 ($500/$600) but a lot of people don't have that money or (like me) are still a bit wary of the first generation technology combined with the format war. For the price, the PS3 doesn't seem unreasonable considering all the technologies that it combines, but it may be more than many people need - or want.
