Some thoughts about Blu-ray pricing

I'm a little bit worried about the pricing of recent Blu-ray discs here in Germany.

For example, "The day after tomorrow" is sold at 29.95 EUR, this would be 45.52 Dollars (but including German VAT which is 19%).

Most people I talk to say they will not buy such an "old" movie at this price.

On the opposite, most retailers have a firesale on HD DVD at 10 EUR (15 Dollars) each. They are flying from the shelves. A co-worker of me got 50 HD DVDs and a player for nearly nothing (but he also bought a PS3 for the BLU future).

What do we learn from this? The adaption of HD media would be much better if the prices for the discs come down quickly. The prices for players are still high, but the BD prices are the real show stopper.
