OK, it is not over as long as there are HD-DVD discs being manufactured, but in the minds of Blu-ray owners other than Universal deciding to support Blu-ray, what else is there?
I keep reading posts by those who support HD-DVD say that if Blu-ray doesn't do X, Y, and Z there is cause for concern. 'Scuse me? Blu-ray already has the manufacturer support HD-DVD doesn't. With the exception of Universal, full studio support. Player prices that reflect the market. A game machine that supports both Blu-ray and DVD without the need of an add-on. More storage space. Great video quality from MPEG-2(Yes, MPEG-2), AVC, and VC-1. Uncompressed audio, HD-Extras...The list goes on and on.. Seriously. It is time for HD-DVD to put up or shut up. HD-DVD has nothing on Blu-ray at present. Go into AVS now and all you will see are posts from people who just bought in, title announcements from all studios, and questions from those who want to buy in. HD-DVD has suffered it worse month. It is not going to get better any time soon unless something major happens at CES. Let them have their inferior format. Blu-ray has nothing to worry about. |

You're absolutely right. HD DVD is losing their initial grip and even that was weak. I read a few of the articles regarding early HD DVD quality and almost got swept up by the hype and FUD. But, when you step back and look at it all logically, Blu-ray is the intelligent, logical choice. We've already seen that Blu-ray exclusive studios like MGM, Fox, Buena Vista (Disney) announced they will NOT support HD DVD. Some would argue that Universal won't support Blu-ray, but they'll have to "wake up" someday. If they don't, they're still WAAaaay outnumbered. Blu-ray will simply have many more titles available in the coming months.
Blu-ray has SOOOooo much more going for it. Of course, if you talk to the HD DVD fanboys, you'll learn that HD DVD can't lose because the name alone is cooler (DVD cuz we're already familiar and HD cuz it's High Def) !!! Say HD DVD five times fast and then try Blu-ray... Blu-ray is easier to say. HD DVD is a string of letters that does not roll off the tongue, but it's better (just ask an HD DVD fanboy) This is GREAT news for HD DVD : Last edited by jedisinclair; 12-14-2006 at 07:10 PM. |

i was talking to a buddy last night. eseentially with the backing that BR has, all of these companies can sit down and let the train roll along at a loss for a bit. why? because of the size of the companies literally crushing the competition. yes, MS and Tosh are big (as well as intel and a few others) but it is nothing when you look at the backing for BR. as someone else on here said, tosh and ms are literally standing on the tracks waving their arms as the train is starting up.

This is a lot like political races. Momentum is everything. HD-DVD started off with the momentum due largely to Sony's delays and mistakes, but now the Blu-Ray train is rolling. I can't imagine what Toshiba and HD-DVD could do at this point to reverse the trend.

Maybe some more professional FUD?
Certainly the positive news is slim. A2 problems Low add-on sales Few release announcements Warner catching up Disney and Fox saying "forget it" About all they have is Universal committing exclusivity into 2007. But, with a an extremely week box office so far this year, that will generate no hot new releases next year. Gary |

I would suspect that NBC's tie to Microsoft via MSNBC might have something to do with Universal holding out on adding Blu-Ray releases. Just a guess, but it seems possible.
NBC is not famous for making the right decisions, IMO. |

I think the quote from themanroom website summed it up quite nicely when they mentioned the rumors of the March MGM releases...
