Default Wireless Connection

I have no idea where to post this thread or if anybody on this site will be able to help me, but here goes...

I recently added an edition on to my house this year. I put my PS3 and laptop and stuff in there, but my PS3 will not connect to my wireless router. And the signal goes on and off to my laptop. Is there anything i can do/buy in order to boost my signal strength or broaden the area it signals to? I'm using a Lynksys router. My router is located just down the hall from where my edition is, so i don't see why its having any problems reaching it.

Almost any wireless access point can act as a repeater. I have a Linksys AP repeating off of my router. I have also used one of these at a friends house.

I have used this as well.

Wow those are really expensive. Is there a cheaper alternative solution for this? Thanks for the quick response by the way..

Like I said most any AP will also act as a repeater.

I like the Hawking because it acts as a seperate SSID. Where the Linksys you only see one SSID, you just switch to the better signal when needed. I like having two SSIDs so I can make sure I am on the optimal network.

Thanks alot Jason.. so I can just set this up in the new edition and it picks up my current wireless signal? Is the install/setup easy enough to follow through? Sorry for all the questions..

You will need to get to the setup menu via CD. From there, what I did was put it in wireless repeater mode and added the routers MAC address. You should be able to find this on the bottom of the router. You might have to put in your WEP/WPA key as well. I would recommend creating a static IP for it as well and writing it down.

Sorry, I posted random google search links for the ones earlier. I buy from CDW for work and that is where I found the Hawking. If you've got the money, the seperate SSIDs bring peace of mind....

http://www.netgear.com/Products/Rout...ys/WPN824.aspx
i used to have a linksys and my ps3 had the same problem. Since getting the New one i have not had any probelms at all. Also this router is the easiest router I have ever seen to set up.
try this link also if your wondering about price

That was my 100th post, had to celebrate it in some way

Getting back on the thread topic... Thanks for that suggestion Nocknock, that router even looks pretty. Does anybody see replacing my current router with the one Nock suggests better or worse than getting an AP?

I have used both, the difference IMO is negligible in either direction. I'm not using a PS3 though, I just know this from my computer experience.

If it's just down the hall I would just use some Cat 6 cable and wire the PS3. That way you'll always get a nice stable connection all the time and at a faster speed (up to 1000Mb/s depending on your router and ISP).

You can buy 50 feet of cable from www.monoprice.com for $12, shipping included.

If you're going with my advice, use an insulated staple gun to fasten the wire, T-59, 5/16 inches is recommended or use the plastic cable fasteners they use for RG-6 coaxial. Whatever you do don't put too much pressure on them, these data cables don't like being pinched.

Hey thanks for that ActionHank... Which wire should i go with, I'm staring at the monoprice site with 100 different kinds haha. I'm seeing alot with "Xbox Halo" in the name. And do the color of the wire matter? Probably not, just making sure.. Any suggestions.. http://www.monoprice.com/products/se...p?keyword=cat6
