Default Confused on Lossless Audio need Help !

Hi, I am looking to get lossless audio but I'm a litle confused. Okay this is the equipment I have and I am just confused on what I need to do:

Sony BDP-300 Blu-Ray
Yamaha 6.1 HTR 5740 Receiver
All Infinity speakers setup for 7.1
Samsung 50" 1080p Plasma

Both the BDP-300 and the Yamaha 5740 are capable of multi-channel so I need to set my BDP-300 to Bitstream and not PCM ? I assume you choose 5.1 Dolby True HD, I think. I have been running my BDP-300 using the optical cable and my Yamaha 5740 receiver decodes the Dolby Digital EX and runs all 7 speakers but I'm reading that is not true uncompressed sound and running via analog outs through the multi-channel is the way to go for best sound. I remember doing this when I had a SACD player and I remember having the same problem with the bass lacking. I do use this receiver as my main music receiver as well and I hope that the bass isuue wont be a problem. Also, I might upgrade to a Blu-Ray player that will decode True HD ( I haven't reached my 30 days yet) as I eventually want to buy a receiver that will do this but for now my receiver is only 2 years old. Can anyone help me out and maybe lead me in the right direction ? Any help is greatly appreciated

You need to let the BD player decode Dolby TrueHD and pass the decoded LPCM audio into the receiver via HDMI/multi-channel input. The simplest way is to use HDMI. When you're running DVDs, use optical/coax as you can then let your receiver decode it to lossy 5.1-7.1.

Okay WriteSimply,
I was under the impression that I was to use the Analog/Multi Channel input . The only thing that HDMI is good for me is the picture as my receiver does not have any HDMI inputs. Thats where I get confused, I know that I need to hook the BD player to my AVR using the multichannel connections but then I'm confused on the setups from the BD Player and the BD-software. For my AVR I only have one choice and thats multi-channel input which of course I loss all my special effect but hey thats not the way it was suppose to sound anyway. So do you understand what I'm asking or did I confuse you....lol.... Hey thanks a million

Thanks but I'm back to the same ole' question , Does my Sony BDPS-300 decode True HD ? some say yes and some say No !! Also, I'm confused on the analog outs being 5.1 when I have 7 Channels, does the rear outputs carry all 3 channels of sound to the rear and surround speakers ? It seems like their should be an output and input for the rear mono channel. I'm still confused and I just need to know if I need another BD player before my 30 days are up and I can't take it back.....Any help is greatly appreciated

I don't have your receiver but according to the pix on Amazon, your receiver have TWO HDMI INPUTS and one OUTPUT. If you say it doesn't, then you need to use the analog multichannel input.

The latest from paidgeek, which is an employee of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is that the S300 after the latest upgrade decodes TrueHD.

Most movies are not mixed in 7.1 so 5.1 analog input should work for you most of the time. What the receiver will do is matrix the two surround channels into four surround channels via matrix decoding.

Hey Write Simply I have the Yamaha HTR 5740 and no I don't have any HDMI inputs. Well I guess my final question is what would you do in my situaton ? Upgrade BD to the S-500 which will run me another $100. Upgrade receiver to the Onkyo 605 which I can get for $399 right now ? Do both ? I mean I really do not want to spend another $500 to do both but I have come this far with my AV setup and I hate to stop short. But with the S-300 and my receiver there is no way of decoding True HD lossless audio s something has to give....thanks again

I'm not familiar with the S-300 but I think it can bitstream TrueHD and DTS HDMA via HDMI. So you can get the Onkyo 605 and use that for another three years or you could get the S-500 and then in three years get a HDMI receiver. That's really up to you and what you think all of this is worth.

I have a PS3 so if I was in your situation, I'd get a HDMI receiver.
