Default Changing video modes on PS3

Hi there,

I sold my BDP-S300 and purchased a PS3. On the S300 remote there was a button to flip between all video modes 'on-the-fly'; 480i/p, 720 etc.

Anything like that on the PS3?

Lovely machine BTW; the difference in loading times is fantastic!

Thanks!

You can go into the settings menu and disable certain resolution outputs, but nothing you can do on the fly. Why would you want to?

The above is correct, not really sure why you would want to do that either.

Just b'c I'm a 'home-theater' freak and sometimes want to see what looks better when upconverting :-)

But other than that, the PS3 rules

Thanks for your answer

some old tvs have issues when outputing in 1080 and 720. I have to keep switching from 480p when playing a game then switch back to 1080i to watch a movie.
I can see how an "on the fly" option would cool to have. it's a pain to have to switch it every time...

Certain games look MUCH better in their native resolution, as opposed to allowing it to be upconverted.

Rainbow Six Vegas comes to mind. Looks like hell on 1080i. Looks stunning in 720p.

As far as gaming, i would think you could do that once they give the update for the in game xmb menu...

I don't know why but my TV does that. As soon as I launch a game in 1080i or 720p mode, my TV displays no signal right after the PS3 logo goes away...

games look great in 480p... plus I got the PS3 mainly for the Blu-ray player. So as long as my TV can play movies it in 1080i i'm cool.
