The future indeed looks bright.

I know it will come with time but I had been hoping more big movies would get announced with release dates. So far it has been a little disappointing. Am I the only one to think like that?

Great article for sure, especially since it points out that prices are continuing to drop in the wake of HD DVDs elimination.

"Buying a Sony PlayStation 3, which incorporates a Blu-ray player, an Ethernet connection and a hard drive, eliminates the problem. Software upgrades can be downloaded, turning a Profile 1.0 machine into a Profile 1.1 or 2.0 machine. For the price of a low-end Blu-ray player ($399), you get a pretty spectacular game system. This is as close as it gets to a free lunch."

Indeed

The PS3 is perhaps the greatest piece of hardware Sony has released in some time. It may not be the ultimate in everything it does, but in everything it does, it does it so damn well that I can easily overlook any shortcomings.

Great article.

NY Times reports that blu-ray will have a bright future. In other news, the sun came up today. It is expected that trend will repeat trend tomorrow.

Yeah, it's a shame that it is like that though.

Web sites like Home Theater Forum (HTF) will go out of their way to bury it; but they'll be the first ones to mention or link to anti-Blu-ray articles.

Articles like this are important for the general consumer to adopt Blu-ray. One article like this at a major newspaper is worth thousands of bad blogs saying downloads are the future.

Yeah great article thanks.
Just pre-orded a few Blu's from play, looking forward to getting Batman on Blu too when its out

Just reading an article over on the dvdtown forums about this DVD2 format that MS, Panasonic and Tosh are pushing. Is likely to be a rival to Blu-ray or is it just something will that might fall by the wayside?

DVD 2.0? No such thing. Never will be such a thing. Kind of like the triple-layer 51GB HD DVD.

The funny thing about DVD 2.0 is they think they'll be getting a quad-layered disc and they'll be right around an SL BD...talk about delusional. They've got SUC and DVD 2.0...what's next? Just look at it this way, they thought HD DVD was going to be the successor to DVD...they were wrong.
