Default Subwoofer Placement

My room is very narrow and I'm wondering if I place my powered sub directly in front of my front speaker, can in damage my subwoofer? I know this not the ideal location, but the size of my room in limiting. Any advice would be appreciated.

I will also post in the audio section - I'm not sure which thread this fits under best.

Shouldn't hurt anything. Just don't put it in front of the tv since the subwoofer is probably not shielded.

Can you locate it near a wall? Subwoofers have to work alot harder to acheive Xspl when they are not assisted by wall support. This usually increases distortion, and a lack of low frequency support. Also the frequency response suffers because instead of a sub "seeing" a wall, and combining its output with it(and limiting late arriving reflections), you now are going to have a reflection pattern that can create dips and peaks in its output.
