I'm looking for a home theater system for use with Xbox 360 and a bit of music.
It will be paired with a Samsung 3253h in my bedroom. Thanks edit - I'm looking at something like the lower end Sony, Samsung, Panasonic models with all relatively small speakers. I'm only 15 and this is for my BEDROOM. Not looking to spend half my savings on anything. Last edited by shoppingforplayer; 04-14-2008 at 01:08 AM. |

Its more than worth it to spend more than that. When I say this i'm sure I speak for about everyone on here. You need to atleast spend what you have spent on your tv in audio gear. You can thank me later. For what you are wanting to spend you may as well save some more money and get something better.

I don't agree you need to spend as much as you did on your TV. I have a nice setup on my main and secondary TV but have yet to go surround sound in my bedroom. A nice addition would be the Sony HT-DDWG700 for $200 you get a receiver that can handle 5.1 DD and DTS and some speakers. I think this one will suit you as you don't need a DVD player built in. If you can spend $300 the Onkyo HT-S3100 is the way to go.

A. Doesn't have that kind of money B. Is not audiophile looking to satisfy lust for audio perfection ...so implying that someone should spend the same amount or higher than what the TV costs, is not always sound advice. ![]() |

While only you know how important sound is to you, I'd recommend saving a bit more money before you take the plunge. While you may be able to get a decent set of 5.1 speakers for $250-$350, you'd still need to pair it with a receiver of equal quality. Remember that unlike many other components, speakers won't become obsolete in 3-4 years. Good ones can produce great sound for 10-15 years easily! Your system will only sound as good as the weakest component, so you need to invest in a decent receiver too. I have 3 Pioneer receivers that I'm still using that I bought for $180, $280, and $1170. I've been very happy with all of them. I've matched them with a cheapie JBL 5.1 system ($300 - mediocre sound), an Aperion 5.1 system ($800 - great sound), and another Aperion 5.1 system ($2300 - completely awesome sound!) respectively.
Save your pennies and wait until you can afford something you'll be happy with for the long-term. Here's a short article on home theater budgeting that may help: http://www.finishabasement.com/home_...ter_budget.htm. Good luck! |

OK guys, I'm only 15 years old, and there is no way in hell I'd spend "the same as my TV" (~$1000) on audio.
I just want some decent surround sound for my video games. And I don't need anything huge. I'm looking at something like the lower end Sony, Samsung, Panasonic models with all relatively small speakers. REMEMBER - this is for a BEDROOM |

![]() J\K I have one of these and it gets the job done. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HTD-DW790...8139746&sr=8-7 I am moving it to the basement, but if you are in need of 5.1 DD/DTS on the cheap it isn't bad at all. |
